I Get Shocked!!!

I get shocked most everytime I get out. It's frustrating! I think it has to do with how our seats are sorta soft & fuzzy. Because my last vehicle (Toyota Tacoma) had cloth seats also but of a rougher material, and I never got shocked getting out of it.

Yeah I have the same "problem" too. This may sound like an odd place to get zapped but- the other day when I was getting up out of the car the door grazed my chest and zapped my nip. Talk about ouch! lol

(lol) (rofl)

I too have been shocked numerous times. Once it shocked me so hard that my entire arm and shoulder hurt for about an hour. I try to use the base of the palm of my hand...it doens't seem to hurt as much because there aren't as many nerve endings there.

i get shcoked everytime, that is untill i got smart....... just before you exit your car DONT MOVE IN THE SEAT. open the door a little ways, then touch something metal on the door. if you dont move in your seat you wont get shocked. keep holding onto the metal part and get out. dont let go untill you are completely out of the seat. then shut the door. you will not get shocked.

the reason why of course is because you are grounded to the metal, and by touching something metal AS you are building charge (by moving in the seat), the charge becomes disapated.

do this everytime you exit the vehicle and i can garruanty you wont get shocked!

Actually, if you use this method, you CAN move around in your seat, as long you keep your @ss in contact (at all times) with the seat until you grab hold of the door frame (or any metal part). The important thing is to keep grabbing hold of the metal until your @ss has left the seat.

Tip: Swivel/shift yourself on the seat (remember to keep contact with seat at all times) so that you're facing the opened door, preferably with one foot out the door. Grab the sloping part of the door frame with your right hand and 'assist' yourself up. Just don't put too much weight on the door. Once you're completely out, you can let go of the door. Won't look awkward with more practice. :)

Check us out- now we are giving tutorials on how to get out of the car! lol Submit it to the Technical "How-To" forum...just for kicks. lol

holding the door frame works fine for me. i find myself doing it whenever i get out of any car. my next car will just have to have leather seats i guess...

you are weird! SADIST!

but i kinda have to agree...........

you mean "masochist" since he enjoys getting shocked.

he'd be a sadist if he enjoyed watching his friends get shocked. :)

I hope this doesn't give anyone ideas now? What do you call a person who enjoys getting their nipples shocked? :p

Oh yes.
There was not one day that I went without getting a shock from my car, then I started doing the touching the door trick before standing up so I wouldn't get shocked. It's great, no shocks.
I'm a pretty staticky person as it is so the shocks I got were those swearing shocks "What the f***!!" :wtf: , not just the "Ow" shocks.

Today I was wearing leather gloves while driving (damn cold steering wheel and looks cool :D ) and I figured I could ignore the touching of the door before leaving and I got a shock THROUGH THE LEATHER GLOVES!! I mean, it wasn't as strong as without gloves but I still felt it, now that's strong.
(shocked)

Oh, you just reminded me that the "touch-the-door-while-getting-out" method may or may not work if you wear gloves. You may still get a shock thru the gloves.

Hehe, if you're THAT paranoid, first take off your glove (on the hand used to grab the door) and put it back after you've gotten out and have shut the door. :)

Like I said before, when you get out, don't touch anything metal. Open the door like normal with the interior handle and close the door with the outside handle. The outside handle is just plastic so you won't get shocked.

so! we're not alone!! I get a spark when I put my key into start the motor, AND when I get out, and when I touch the door of my garage, etc. sometimes it's so loud my wife laughs out loud, and then, ZAP, she gets a loud one too!

Had the same problem with my 626, though not as bad, but then again, we haven't had such a dry cold winter in 10 years here in the NorthEast.

You guys down in Florida shouldn't complain with all your nice warm humidity. It's probably worse up here now because it's so dry.

Anyway in Japan some people carry around electric charge discharge things. Before you directly touch anything metal, you use that discharge thingy that you can put on your key chain to unzap yourself. anybody know where we can get 'em here in the US?

But this is funny!!

it is the way your car says "i hate you". Sell your car if it shocks you b/c it is just going to end up killing you in another way later.

I've seen computer lab techies carry something like that...was on a bungee type cord...hooked up to pants or keychain.

(rofl)Florida...leather seats...haven't been shocked yet. You folks are funny.

Used to own Toyota...cloth seats...shocked EVERY friggin time I got out of car. I remember what you folks are going through now....

I feel your pain.....chuckle(rofl)

What ever happenned to those static discharge thingies that you drag under your car? I think they were like rubber coated and had a little triangle shaped reflector on it. They looked gay, but if they worked I think it would be quieter than a chain.

I don't know if we should do a group buy on a such a technologically advanced block of metal...
