Hypertech question??

Just installed my Hypertech, initial impressions: 1st and 2nd are a lot more fun! Haven't spent enough time with it to really say anything else. With this tune should I worried about boost spike or creep? Is it worth it to get a DashHawk to keep track of things? Also, currently my DP, TP, and CBE are all stock. I will do a TP and res delete soon.
 
I haven't done any monitoring at all..and I probably won't, as long as the car is running good you should be fine, Im only running a Cobb intake and the HT tune and thats probably all I will do to maintain as much reliability as I can. Its ok to want to make sure your car is safe... but it tends to turn into an obsession once you get a dashhawk from what I've read. Keep your mods simple that way you won't need to be so concerned about it.

The boost gauge is pretty easy..I would suggest getting a mechanical boost gauge over an electrical..mechanical seems to be more accurate and you won't have as much wiring to full with...the cp-e pod fits right over the drivers side vent..heres a picture from cp-e's website http://www.cp-e.com/imgs/SP3snglGP1_big.jpg
 
With the hypertech all you have to do is plug it in pick your mods? kinda like set it and forget it???? or is there more to it?

Its pretty straight foward.. all the safety features are left in place so you really shouldn't have to worry about it to much...its a pretty mild tune..IMO.
 
Plus one for worth it..:) I will let you know well worth it is, Going to the DYNO tomorrow AM, Cant wait, LOL.

The unit it a " Plug and Play" Takes all of 10 mins to install.
 
OH just saw you have a TP, You are probaly seeing boost creep? NO? I have heard that removing the second cat can casue boost creep. Poor wastergate port,

OP should not experience boost creep with just a test pipe. Although some are seeing creep with full big tube (3 inch) totally catless dp/rp combos, like I have in my sig, I have never seen boost creep. Never. I know others I respect on this board who are having the issue, but I am not aware of anyone with just a test pipe having the problem.

This does point out the one thing I think we can all agree on: Get a boost gauge ASAP.

Modifications to the exhaust will raise boost levels in varying amounts, depending on just how much modification takes place. Those mods can, but do not necessarily run the wastegate to maximum capacity. When flow exceeds the ability of the wastegate to bleed the excess into the downpipe then boost creep will happen. The only way to know if you are having boost creep or excessively high or prolonged boost spikes is to have a boost gauge. Modifying exhaust or running any type of aftermarket tune without a boost gauge is insane. I agree that a good mechanical gauge is hard to beat for this purpose.

Consider the Dashhawk. More versatile than a boost gauge and applicable to all OBD and OBD2 vehicles. Worth every penny, in my view.
 
Darth is right.

If you can afford it, the ability to monitor a lot of different parameters, including waste gate duty, AFR's and long term fuel trims can be very helpful and may be critical if OP goes further in his mods. Dash Hawk is the best way to do that at a reasonable price.

My suggestion of "get a boost gauge ASAP" is an absolute minimum for protection. It was not intended to be anything more than that.
 
/hijack/ Boost gauge is definatly needed on this car. I use an electronic one but as other said, many electronic boos gauge are crap. I use the DEFI red racer(yes the red one wich fits perfectly with mazda gauge) This is the only one that i would recommend. Many hardcore tuner in my region wont recommand anything else than DEFI for electronic gauge. They are reliable and looks great. Unfortunalely it come to a cost...

Good luck with HT. I definately consider getting one. I was all over cobb but since i dont plan any more mods(intake, bpv) i think HT will be the best bang for the buck. And for those with monitoring concerns provided by cobb accessport, i have a obd2 reader with all the same log function that the cobb has.

I hope seeing good result on dyno.

That what I keep hearing. The only mods I am going to do it a RMM, TIP, SRI, BPV and TMIC. Do I need to worry about thing with just those mods? or should I be fairly safe. Don't really want to get a dashhawk plus wouldnt even know what I was looking at if I got one.(if I need one I could learn pretty fast what is safe and not)


Also with those mods would I need to get one step colder spark plugs?
