Hydroplain

I have a crazy question. When ever it rains, meaning anywhere from a summer shower to a storm my car hydroplains every puddle I hit, Is this normal? And if its we I can be in 2nd or even 3rd and light my tires up. I have ran alot of different tires and none seem to help, or am I just the only one that finds this weird.

It sounds to me like you need to slow down. Spinning your tires in 2nd or 3rd, even when it's wet requires considerable throttle input....not a good idea when the recommendation for wet weather is steady throttle and slower speeds. Hydroplaning is a lot less likely if you're moving slower. If the water doesn't have time to get out of the way, it piles up in front of your tires. Don't blame the car...it's you.

I didn't say it happens everytime, I was just asking if it happens to anyone else. I love how people can take a simple question about the car and turn it into a reason to flame someone.

What kind and size of tires? All with good tread depth?

I've never really had any issues as long as I've had good tread depth.

Its not normal to hydroplane. But the type of tire tread whether new or old will be a factor. Some tires just do a pour job of channeling water. Old tires with diminshed tread when combined with water is a recipie for disaster.

If you think you've been flamed....you're really traveling with a large chip on your shoulder. I made a simple suggestion to a problem that has only 4 remedies. Tires (which you claim are not the problem), move to Georgia where it hasn't rained in months, vehicle speed (which you probably need to adjust) or get rid of it and buy a Town Car.

Get over yourself.

Flaming would be someone saying "you're a ******* moron" or "your mom goes to college" or something, man! Nobody's flaming here, they are providing the very advice you asked for.

My opinion is that you are running on subpar tires or worn tires, with too much speed. There are some great tires for rain use, if you want to use them. Ones with "AA" ratings in traction are ideal for rain use. That traction rating is for WET. You can also use TireRack's guides to tires as well. When raining, keep in mind that the first few minutes or so of it will be slick as hell, thanks to all the oils in the ground leaching up and creating a film on the road. After a while, this goes to the drains and you've got a wet, but safe road. At this point, you should be able to get traction provided you have a tire that can clear water away from its treads appropriately.

????????for explaining what flaming is or hydroplaning? Sounds like he knew neither. AA non slicks & no clutch dumping when wet FTW!
