Hwy 9 Fun Run!

also, it wouldn't really have anything to do with the valve cover, there would be no oil spot because the oil is all bein burned, do you recall any oil burning smell recencly? usually something like that comes on gradually. did it make a violent knock when you accelerated or did it slowly come on?

Maybe the A/F ratio was way off? My cousin in tw who used to study car mechnics told me that if you have ****** up A/F ratio you'll get the knocking sound (he told me this when I was getting my intake), and if worst can damage your engine.

Anyway, Nate -- Sorry to hear what happend. If you need anything from me you know who to call. I'll be home probably all day tomorrow.

I'll tell you guys one thing. If they dont cover it, I'll be in the market for a Mazdaspeed engine. :)

Or at least some forged internals for my old one.(wiggle)

that hella sucks nate...sorry to hear that...hopefully mazda will take care of you...keep us updated on your situation...good luck

It fires right up, the oil level is fine. It sounds like someone threw a wrench in the dryer, but it starts & drives.

Thanks Ron! :)

lol, thanks for the help, Mark. :)

Yes, it sounds like the rods are banging. I don't know what they're banging against, but there's a loud tick/bang that is in sync with the rpms. It's not pretty. The car has plenty of power, doesn't overheat, no oil leak, no weird smell in the cabin, no smoke pouring out, just a really scary noise and a rough idle.

That really sucks Natey.. if its worth anything, your car is still my idol(bowdown)

I hope everything turns out fine.. and good luck with the bastards at the dealership.

so let me get this straight.

it burned a buncha oil, started makin all kinds of noise, (was there a loss of power?) smelled bad, you filled it up, drove it home. now, it starts, runs, but makes lots of noise and feels normal powerwise. is the sound metal on metal? on you dip stick (or open ur oil cap) and see if there is any kinda metal in it? is there any blue smoke / bad smell coming out of the exhaust? what about if you rev it?

how many miles on your car nate? i don't see how they would wear out so fast, also, that wouldn't explain the oil or smell

Once they go dry they'll wear out real fast.

Surprisingly the valvetrain was suspiciously quiet even when the car was ran with (possibly) no oil.

thats true, execept that still leaves the problem, how would the oil have dissapeared so fast?
