I'm using the stock hangers right now. I have the Kartboy hangers, but never got around to putting them on. I'll give you those with the RB, in case you want to put them on. A little rigging may be in order, but you can have em anyway.

I got KYB MonoMax shocks for the truck I used to drive... they were very nice for what it's worth... Although that really has nothing to do with Miata struts. I am sure you'll be happy with either.
 
I like my KYBs but the more I read about them, the more I'm ready for them to blow out after 30K miles. If the Konis are anywhere near the same price, I'd probably go with them. :)

Question: I have a tapping noise coming from my Miata's engine after startup or hard driving.



  • A1:
    Mazda has issued several service bulletins on this problem. Consult your dealer for more information on these bulletins. Remedies range from switching oil weights (see A2) to changing to newer lifters with larger oil passages (see A3). These items can be fixed under the Mazda warranty if your car is new enough to still be in the warranty period.
  • A2:
    Most lifter noise is cured by switching weights of oil. Mazda recommends trying 5W30 oil first. Some Miata owners report switching to a heavier oil like 20W50 to stop the noise. additionally, some owners report switching to a synthetic oil such as Amsoil or Redline to alleviate the noises.
  • A3:
    When lifter noise is not cured by switching oil weights another option is available. Mazda has valve lifters with larger oil passages. These lifters will solve the noise problem. Note that changing the lifters is not a simple task. Consult your dealer or a reputable mechanic before doing this procedure yourself.

too bad the M2's have solid lifters which are noisy to begin with but they won't tap from oil starvation, if they start tapping, it's valve adjustment time before you burn one
 
I was noticing a little somethin somethin coming out of both of our cars the other night after rallying. Maybe some 5W-30 would be a good call for our next change. :)

I have the same engine as your Miata, Natey. I've tried all of those listed above, and the problem still happens down the road.
If you would like to change the lifters to the uprated ones, gimme a call. It's been about 10yrs since I did mine, but it wasn't all that hard to do. It's just expensive. If you got the Mazdaspeed Motorsports discounts, then the cost will be tolerable.
