HPS Short Ram Intake REVIEW

So after HOURS and HOURS of research I finally bought myself a SRI, and I decided to go with the HPS. Ive done my research and asked everyone I could find who have owned one or had experience with them and they had nothing but GOOD to say about them! I chose wrinkle black, because I wanted it to some what look like it was factory, but you can clearly see that it is not. Below are the details and pictures of the intake! (i got a SRI because I do NOT even want to risk the chance of getting hydro lock because of a CAI, where I live the streets flood like CRAZY! So it is very very possible to submerge the filter on a CAI)

Packaging: The packaging was very very nice! It was all packed and wrapped really well so there was absolutely no way of stuff smacking together. Besides the intake they also included a HPS license plate frame, a couple stickers, business card, and very detailed instructions (with pictures) that was a big help!

Build/Quality: Wonderful! The welds are great looking, very solid and clean! It comes with very nice and sturdy T-Bolt Clamps (i dont believe ive seen any intakes thats came with them), as well as hose clamps and mounting brackets for an automatic transmission as well as a five speed. (they fit and hold great, definitely a great support for the intake)

Sound: This intake sounds freakin incredible! In the mid/high RPM's the engine now has a deep roar to it! Its sounds almost as if I had installed an exhaust or something (which will be coming soon, hehe)! Under low acceleration the intake makes this intoxicating whistle noise, that almost sounds like a mini turbo spooling! I LOVE the sound!

Performance: Definitely pulls harder in the MID/HIGH RPM's! Throttle response is also a lot better because of the increased air flow through the K&N cone filter that comes with it! Also this SRI sits a lot lower than most SRI's allowing for more airflow but not down far enough to ingest water! (i would recommend keeping your stock splash shield tho, mine is currently off but a new one should be in the mail tomorrow) :P

Overall: I would DEFINITELY reccomend this product to anyone in search of an intake, it comes in about 5 different colors and you can buy the HPS CAI which can be converted in to the SRI! The sound/quality/performance is wonderful! Great product! I could NOT be happier! (to all those who say, oh thats just a crappy ebay intake, dont get it blah blah blah, thats a load of crap, this is a great product!) :)

That is a good looking piece. The real bonus as far as looks for me is that since it is a sri from cai it is a pipe and not just a silicone elbow to an aluminium piece for the mafs to bolt to. Plus the added bonus of changing quickly to cai if you want.

I am thinking about the SRI from Cosmo Racing for $91.00, it is also pipe construction. Only as a short ram though not an "option" kit I guess we can call it like yours. I am not sure about any intake mods though, I have an auto trans and it is my understanding that autos get little to no gains when it comes to intake mods.

my gains come in the mid to high rpm range, so if autos don't go that high then that makes sense.

hey man about the Cosmo Racing SRI, ive heard nothing but BAD things! I wanted to get one for the longest time, but i read so much bad stuff about it! ill PM you the link!

I would think the rpm ranges for auto, and manual are the same. I don't want to go and spend a pile of money on an intake and not get more power from it. I can't see myself putting one on just for the sound factor either. I am waiting for a while before I do any mods, and even then I will most likely start on the suspension first, no sense going fast if she wont corner or stop. Then I will try out some power mods, resonator delete/cai or sri, timing advance, balance shaft delete, & the various ground mods, and exhaust from Corksport.

I have the corksport SRI and an automatic transmission. The biggest change that I have noticed is that my car is much more responsive. If you drive a car with the automatic transmission correctly you can still bring the rpm's up high enough to feel the added power in the mid to high rpm range. I start to feel the intake power gains the most between 3000-3500 rpms. I used to have horrible throttle response (I also had the throttle body ground mod), I feel that the transmission responds to my input much better.

Whats the tubing diameter on that?

I'm thinking about going with the F2 CAI because they come in a 3" size which as far as I can tell is the main difference between most CIAs/SRIs?

I also read they might be making a 3 inch MAF for the F2 on a post I read written in '06 . From my understanding, the F2s bumps down to 2.5 inches at the sensor which cancels out the 3" benefit.

Anything on that?

The HPS you got is, and has been my second choice. Seems like a quality product.

Any info on a Takeda CAI?

i havent heard anything about a 3" fujita maf. but the takeda does the same thing as well, it goes from 3" to 2.5" for the maf, then back to 3" so i mean ya the 3" is nice but then you really wont notice the difference because the maf only reads the 2.5"

from what i know the takeda is nice as well! it was between that and the hps for me! i liked the look of the hps better and its cheaper :)

I'm always nervous about buying these sri. In the past I've ordered some that didn't fit. I have 06 Mazda3 2.3L high performance. Fit?
