Budget $4000AUD. What would you buy for the SP20? What brand? And in what order would you buy them in. For example. 1) Rims, 2)Exhaust, 3) Sound or 1)Exhaust, 2) Sound, 3) Rims....How would you spend the $4000 and why?

NB:Lowered (Kings) and tinted already (3M).

Just trying to get some preferences?

imo :

1) full exhaust - big power to be gained $1500
2) cams - ditto $800 tops
3) cold air intake $300 tops
4) piggyback like chiptorque/unichip - $1400 inc tuning tops
5) if money was left over or you wanted to spend a bit extra - mazdaspeed swaybar set (25mm front, 20mm back), but that's about $700 i think i worked it out to be

$4000. you'd have a hell of a powerful car (if this was done now you'd have the most powerful NA sp20/protege5 on this board). with the lowering springs and a change of tyres when you next need them to 205/45/16's (ie stickier rubber) you'll have enough handing to run rings around a lot of cars.

yep - all except the ecu, and i know for sure there is heaps to be gained there....if i had the money now i'd go out and get the ecu without a doubt

rims, and leather interior... throw the other 500 at some kinda amp, and maybe speakers.... ahh creature comforts

Where would you get the cold air intake done in Brisbane?

Am going to do 2 Stages. Stage 1 = 1), 3), 4) by end of 2005. Stage 2 = 17" Rims/Tyres + 5) by Mid 2006.

Add new progressive Shocks and Springs to Stage 2.

cold air intake - i have an injen from america. you could go to an exhaust shop and have them make up and intake. i did that with my previous car, but that was only a short ram intake.

and that's good to do things in stages. next on my plan is getting the intake cam reworked, intake manifold work then piggyback.

I got a cold air intake off ebay for around US$40 + shipping and a K&N filter for US$30 + shipping. Its pretty much the same design as the Injen and relocates the air intake to behind the front bumper, just not as shiny :).

Ill go the 17" rims = approx 1500-1600
Full Exhaust = 1500
Injen intake = 400
and the rest maybe amp upgrade or speakers.

Hey does anyone know the prices for a SP20 front sway bar?

Better still anyone got a stock one for sale? where could i get one from besides mazda retailers, my car doesnt come with one standard...

you mean a strut bar???

you already have a sway bar

whiteline would be a good place to go to, and while your shopping with them get yourself a rear sway bar, coz that will make more difference than the strut bar

and if you want to improve the handling there is an article titled free suspension mod.... i'd highly reccomend following it... (after all i wrote it)

yeah definately do james' caster mod. it's great.

hey james, what size sway bars does the less than sp20 models come with?

whats the difference with a strut bar and sway bar??.. i don't think i have anything..

ok poke your head under your car (easiest at the rear)

you see the bar running across? thats a sway bar

you want a strut bar? that runs from the top of the strut, to the other side??

andrew has a rear strut bar too - if your serious about it i'd reccommend it, as having a hatch you are open to a lot of rear flex.... in the sedan its all good
