How to treat rusting panel?

I bought my Protege5 brand new in 2003. Since I've had it, there have been some disappointments -- the EGR valve needed to be replaced and three of the four stabilizer links went bad. The biggest disappointment, however, is the rust that has formed near the right rear passenger side, by the wheel well.

I do live in Cleveland, so I'm sure road salt probably played a role.

I'm looking for some suggestions on how to treat the rust. I hoped to drive this car for 200,000 miles, and now I'm not sure that's going to be possible.

Any suggestions and cost estimates?

your going to have to take that to a shop, they'll have to sand it down to good metal and then work there way up with filler

shouldnt be too much if you have them just do that section and blend it

thats the kinf of job you can do yourself. Not too hard and its not like there is a hole in the metal.

1-sand it down. remove all the rust with the sand paper
2-apply putty
3-sand the putty so its nice
4-put primer
5-get the right paint at your local car store.
6-After the paint is dry, polish and wax.

anyways, you can get a lot of info on google.

i have the same kind of spot and im gonna do the job this summer.
