what does anyone think, i think they look decent, not perfect, if you look close up in person you can see scratch marks because the lowest grit sandpaper i used was i think 240, i should have gone finer, and the clear coat didnt go on that great and it kind of accumalated in the corners and its looks crappy brownish color that i hope will dry clear, and one of them the clear came out crappy because i guess i didnt shake it good because i think it was nearing the bottom of the can and the paint was coming out bubbly

Looks great! except for the drying clearcoat puddles of coarse. Did you paint the lip of the rim black? Props for trying a new color, but I am not sure that color would go ver well with silver though. But what ever you like is the only thing that matters. Make sure to post a pic when you get them mounted back on the car. Also make sure to get a wheel alignment(very important!)

the lip is black kind of, i didnt really coat the whole lip well because i assume it might get damaged or scratched when they put tires on

why do i need a wheel alligniment? i thought i just needed to get them balanced, im gonna have to check cuz im getting new tires so it might come together i hope

Those actually came out better than I expected. Actually that color scheme looks kinda cool...

Yah, sorry I ment you had to get them balenced, not a wheel alignment. Sorry for the mixup

FINALLY got some GOOD pix (read: NOT from my camera phone) of my rims that were done back in May. This is the best one I think:

oh and habeansha what clearcoat did u use? cuz i bout some the otherday and it shoots it out in like a stream and makes bubbles on the surface of the paint its sticking to, weird
but i might try some high heat clearcoat, would that work? or is clear not even needed?

Use the clearcoat that I posted in the first post shown here(the blue can):

It is by Dupli-color and it is aspecially made for wheels, looks and works great.

yeah i used that wheel paint, got it from some autoparts store

i think it was that dupli-color stuff

i know mine had a bunch of bubbles and paint accumulated in the corner areas but it dried alright i guess

looks fine now though

Well, going to give this a try. Thanks a ton for the write up and everyone's advice.

Went out tonight and got the light silver and clear coat, and pretty much exactly everything else you recommended (ended up getting 220 and 320 grit sandpaper, no one in town had 400).

I'll try to take pictures as I go, I suck at editing so they'll prolly be huge.

Good deal, no prob. Just take your time and do lots of prep and they should turn out great. Good luck! Make sure to post some pics when your done.

Well, ended up finding some 600 grit paper. Sanded everything down real good, put on the putty and sanded that down. That was amazing stuff. I cant believe it works lol.

anywho, got my primer on last week and put on my paint coat tonight. I'll let it sit overnight and then clear coat (unless I screwed somethign up...in which case I'm sanding and starting over ><). The silver paint turned out real nice, looks close to the stock silver right now...dont know how bright they'll be after the clearcoat! Now to buy some tires...

Have some pics of the last primer coat pre-sand.

ya, they are...I started a thread a while back when I caught 'em on craigslist.

As for taking my time, I have to 'cause I only get like 1-2 hours to work on 'em a night (after work, at work) lol...so i guess its just my luck ;)
