How To: Repair curb rash and paint rims

i think i am going to paint the lip yellow.... i have some engine enamel that is almost the same color as my car. A yellow lambo in that video vs the STI inspired me to paint the lip yellow...so i will try and see what i can do. I know the lip isn't big by any means, but I will see what I can do or should i just paint the center cap yellow? hm...i want me wheels to be different than everyone else's...some uniqueness to them

or i could paint them like these wheels, yellow where it is copper and black where is is silver. talk about a long time of painting

Yah I dont know about painting a yellow lip only because the stock P5 rims don't really have a lip. More like a rounded radius that flows into the inner wheel. It would be cool if you could but I don't know how you would evenly tape a line around the whole wheel. I would say paint the center cap or the sides of the spokes if you want something yellow. Other than that it sounds like a cool idea, just don't forget to post up some pics. Good luck.

i was thinkin about doin the sides of the spokes like that pic. i'll see what i can scrounge up once i look at the wheel more and have it filled w/ the putty and primed. i'll be able to tape over the paint once it dries completely so we'll c. probably paint the wheel black and then go back over the inside of the spokes w/ yellow. we'll c. i'll post pics once I get it done though

i should be doing mine within the next week or two. this week is finals week so i wont have time to do it. but hopefully next week I can tackle it. i need to buy two more jackstands b/c i only have two, and i dont know if it is safe to keep the car on a jack for that long.

I put my car up on stands in the front, and put the rear up by a jack stand in the center.

this procedure is pretty much idiot proof right? i want to paint them grey but am worried if i fck them up. then i can just use thinner to get the paint off right?

Yah, people are always scared to do this but if you think about it if you mess up or don't like the outcome you can just sand em again and repaint or sandblast to go back to stock color. So as long as you put some quality work and hours into this it will come out great. And to answer your question about the paint they usually sell that color of wheel paint at most auto parts stores like Shucks and Autozone.

what if my rims are not scuffed up at all and i just want to paint them. do i still need to sand them?
