How to remove faceplate of stereo head unit?

Manual says to (1) turn ignition off or press SRC button to get face to tilt down and (2) hold the center part of the faceplate to pull it out.

I pull on it, but it doesn't come out. I dont' want to pull hard for fear of breaking it. Of course, in one second, the thing closes up - I don't want to stop it for fear of damaging the motor.

How's it done?

That .. SHOULD .. work.

But, well, since it's not -- I know a way you can kinda 'trick' the head unit into not closing up on you. While your car is still on (such as, when you're idling to let the turbo cool down before pulling the keys from the ignition) .. eject a cd. If I remember correctly, the face should NOT close back up until you either a) turn the car off or b) insert a cd. I'm not positive on that -- I'd run out and check to see, but it's pouring and I'd get soaked in about 0.5 seconds -- but the face shouldn't flip up.

That should give you some extra time to try to pull the face off. My only suggestion is to brace your fingers on the part of the face that's facing down and to pull/slide with your thumb. That's how I get mine off.

If worse comes to worse .. go to the dealer and make 'em give you a new Kenwood unit. :D

just give a good tug when it's titlted down, you won't break it, just give it a good tug and it'll come right out.

do have to worry about the IGN being off. press SRC and when the faceplate is facing upward (display to roof) just use your index and middle fingers on the top (side facing cd opening) and put your thumb in the bottom that is facing outward to the rear of the car.
hold in the middle and pull straight toward you.

it is that simple.

to put back in, slide the right side in first and then press in the right side.

you can adjust the time interval for the faceplate closure too if yours goes to fast for you to remove it.

hope it helps

? I think the car is pretty quick. The only sport compact that's much faster is the SRT-4.

You're new around here. Everyone else knows I love my car too much to be talking s*** about it. Then again, I hate it so much at times, all I do is talk s*** about it...

Oh well.

That could be debateable..

What else is significantly faster out of the box? Nobody is more than a few 10th's faster 0-60 or in the 1/4 that can be had for less than $20k.

I'm just stating that our cars are not the "bomb diggity" that some people make them out to be. This has been debated on here before.. There were several cars that can take a MSP stock vs stock.

I wouldn't say "bomb diggity" to describe anything, but I will say that my MSP isn't significantly better than my wife's Focus SVT. Which is fine, because I love that car.

It is, however, significantly better than the GTI VR6 it replaced.

Adjusting the time it stays open in the menu will give you all the time you need to take it out, but I have the same problem. I've never been able to take it out myself.

Stop thinking of speed only in terms of straight-line acceleration. Otherwise, it's true that our cars are quick, but not fast.
