i was looking for this how to the other day but i couldnt find it!
i ended up tapping the wire from the auto dimming mirror, grounding it in the same spot as you, and then using the Velcro on the V1 piece and stuck it in the map light assembly.. works great, looks so much cleaner now!
this is definitely a must do

Great write-up. I just picked up a new Passport, got a direct wire off eBay, and plan to do this install tonight. I had been searching everywhere for a switched wire so that the RD would turn off with the car. Thanks!

Anyone know how to do a hardwire installation into an 09 mazda 6? Can it be hardwired into the auto-dimming mirror?

That's how I did mine. Thinking I may go up above the map lights, though. Can't figure out how to get the lamp assembly down. (nervous) about getting it loose.

Very well done but does the dimply tint right in front of the unit affect sensitivity? I have an MS3 with the chunky rain sensor as well as the fat Homelink mirror so I don't know if there's even enough room for a radar detector in that spot.

What are you using to secure the radar in that spot? Windshield mount?

I just got a cobra as a gift and it only comes with a standard plug for the power outlet. What would I need to pick up at a store to do this same set up with my detector?

im using cobra, could this fit in my car? i tried today, cutted the wire(it was 2 wires red and white) , spliced into pink/yellow wire. that didnt work for me??
