How To: Electric Window Always On

This is a really great post. One thing I have noticed is that when you press the window lock button, the driver can only control their window. Does anybody think there is a way to rig it so the driver can have total control over all the windows while locking everyone else out?

I have figured out that the moonroof is on the 15Amp, A/C fuse. (Go figure???)

I need to take the fuse box off, and see if there is a seperate wire back there for the moonroof, mabye it could be moved over to the power window circuit?
(Or on it's own 15-amps fuse?)

But it is dark here now.

(I know this is my third post in a row, but it's another day, so bump...)

anyone figure out how to get the moonroof done yet?
Ok, folks I work on this for hours today.
This is what I got:
There is a pink wire at the very top right of the topmost connector on the fuse box.
When I disconnect this wire the moonroof no-longer works.
If this wire is connected to battery power when the car is off, the moonroof is able to open without the car being on.

But, the rear defrost relay is also connected to this same pink wire.
Which means the rear defroster is running off battery power.

The defroster relay is connected directly to the top of the fusebox.
And you can remove the pink wire from it. (And isolate it)
This then could be tapped into a fused keyed-on power source.

You then have to remove the pink wire from the fuse box connector, and tap that (with a fuse) onto a battery power source.

My only thing is that I wonder if there are anyother circuits on this pink wire, that may drain the battery if I tap it.

But I think I will go ahead and try, I am off to the store to get some fuse holders and wire taps.

I'm bored, it's 1:30am. I'm on house watch until 5am cuz of all the fires in the area. I think I'm going to go try this right now. This looks toooooo easy.
lol are u sure it looks too easy? (huh) (confused)

Hey, So while Finding a spot to tuck away some relays so this can be alarm-controlled, I was just sitting in my car with it off at night and I too realized that with my windows wired for constant-on, the "auto" light inside of the driver's window switch is currently on at all times (makes sense) I guess if anyone were really concerned about it, they could dig in and put a relay on the light itself which may require running another wire into the door. (check the audio section for my sticky on running wires through the molex plug)

Also while thinking about this a bit more from a paranoia standpoint. Make sure you NEVER leave your windows "cracked" while wired like this. Makes it all too easy to coat-hanger inside and push the button down. All that said, I'm happy to have done this, and happier still that it's been written-up all nicely for us. Thanks to Zap as well for the moonroof mod.

Very nice mod. very conveniant for me since i always forget to roll up my widows until I am about to close my door. This way I don't have to sit back down, put the key in, turn it on, then take the key out and get out, AGAIN!! It happened like 2 days after doing the mod and I was so happy I didn't have to get back in the car and go through all that just to roll up the window.

i tried this out yesterday but inside the fuse box where theres instructions on

B/W - R/W - empty - empty

but after you're done it should be

B/W - empty - R/W - empty

mines was
emoty- empty- B/W - R/W

im sure i iddnt flip the harness over cus i saw the top clip in the picture and matched it up...n wahts the "B" in B/W stand for? same with the R/W

BUlb Life?

The LED probably draws no more than 15mA, that's 0.015A. By comparison, the interior lights probably total ~30W, maybe less (I don't have my svce man here). But that's closer to 2.3A @ 13V. (P=V*I >> P/V=I >> 30/13=2.30769).

If the numbers are correct, you'd have to leave this modification sitting for 158 days without starting your car to equal that of leaving the interior lights on for 1 day. (somebody check my math on this...)

The point is, if you can leave your interior lights on all night and still be able to start your car in the morning, then this mod should not hurt the battery.

How long do you think the bulb on the switch "AUTO" would last since it's ON all the time????? LMK, thanks!

It is an LED (Light emitting diode), so it will last longer then the car, even when on all the time.

I confirm this work on a Protege ES 2003. Nice & Easy trick yout got, man.... I noticed the 'Auto' led on the driver's button stay on now. Even when the car is completely off. Just like the green light right above the ignition key... I guess this is not a problem at all since these leds use so low energy that it will take well over a year to drain the batt, if you don't drive the car at all. Good work man!

B/W stand for Blue Wire. R/W stand for Red Wire.... In other words, you need to relocate the red wire in the next slot.

I plan on doing this but add a switch so I can disconnect power when parking

I plan on doing this but add a switch so I can disconnect when I am parking somewhere I don't trust.

why add a switch? why not just roll your windows up... its not like everyone is going to know that you can roll your windows up and down without a key

So I have the option to disconnect windows if in that parking lot I feel paranoid. Just if I feel feel paranoid. It's not if I am going to do it all the time.

I measured the current it is 7mA.

I measured the current it is 7mA.

That is 100 times less than rear deck light which is 750mA. 10W.
That is 100 times less that dome light which is 750mA. 10W

Ok, all I needed was some time to figure it out...
Zap, all you ever need is some time! (lol) Window mod worked and now I've got me my new weekend/weeknight one! Kuh-ool!

Man, I've been watching your computer mods for a long time now and was absolutely ecstatic when I came across your posts in the Mazda forums! Keep up the great work. And if anyone needs to see how to mod out a computer with extreme skill, then just check out www.zapwizard.com. You'll be blown away... (bowdown) Later!
