CX5 with auto.
N7turbo was referencing an MX-5 with DRL's
I drive a 2025 CX 5 turbo premium, i use it rarely because i do work from home.
Just followed the instructions from 2013 again today, this time it worked first try. First i had to learn how to start the ignition by pressing the start/stop button twice, i had no idea how to do that and it was only explained on this after reading hundreds of comments... well ok, i should have read the manual... i hate manuals though
That was not the only mistake i made, i also released the brakes BEFORE i released the PARKING brake and i did not turn off the ignition before releasing the foot from the brakes.
The official instruction from Mazda is not 100% clear in my opinion.
For me step 7 indicated that you can release the foot brakes after step 6 which is wrong.
In my opinion it should read:
7. Release the parking break. You now can also release the foot from the brakes.
Then push ignition button to turn off the cars ignition.
THEN Confirm DRL settings
If DRL is activated:
- PARK BRAKE OFF = DRL ON
- PARK BRAKE ON + DRL OFF
Am i correct?

Well maybe its because english is not my native language... i just noticed from all the comments that many people did not understand the procedure 100% correctly like myself. In the german language CONFIRM (bestätigen) means you finished all steps and now you can test if it worked... No word that you have to turn off ignition also first.

That is possible.
I reviewed it and I see what you are talking about.
There is another version that I used. It is the same process but I found it easier to follow the logic since it was broken into more of a flow chart. I can't find it now.

I posted this many years ago, but it is buried. I just copied and pasted again to show the different step.
I start with my lights switch in the off position.
Engaged emergency parking brakes.
Push ignition button twice.
Step on the brake and keep foot on brake the whole time.
Turn light switch to parking lights then back to off 5 times really quick (have to scroll pass auto if you have auto lights).
Then hit the hazards 10 times really quickly (basically on and off 5 times)
Turn light switch to parking lights then back to off 5 times again.
WAIT AT LEAST 5 Seconds
Disengage emergency parking brakes.
Release foot from brake pedal.
Push ignition button once to turn off.
Your DRL should be disabled now. Repeat steps to enable

I did the procedure again, this time for my wife's 2025 Mazda NA Select Trim, worked like a charm now that i know exactly how to do it.
This time i FORGOT to take the foot off the brakes and instead of turning the ignition off i started the car!
It still was a successful attempt!

It still was a successful attempt! Oh as i said it still worked! I tested it in a short drive, the DRL are now off if i put it into OFF. The select parking lights are not as nice looking as the turbo trim or premium plus ones, but my main goal for that select model was to be able to turn the lights off completely to preserve the led bulb for the future. By the way i like the leatherette seats of the select trim better then the leather seats on my turbo
