How to avoid the urge of speed??

well s*** i have a reg protege, i go 110 down the freeway at nite when i get off work cause theres no one on it, and then thats my speeding for the day, as for gas prices go, for regular here its 2.29 a gallon and 2.42 for premium so no problems there.

I don't suggest going 110 on the freeway, but speed limits on these roads DO need to be raised.

When I am Senator, I will introduce a complicated measure I have come up with for my state's highways. It will involve a series of coding, allowing certain speeds for certain vehicles and drivers on the highway, making traffic flow incredibly smooth.

Go to Hell. $2.55 for 87 here, and I was happy about it.

How do you guys keep from using all the speed your cars have?? Some of you have some very fast cars on here, how do you restrain yourself to not keep from going crazy with them??

I drive quick and pick and choose where to open up, but on the highway I usually don't bother going much faster than the limit.

It will happen after you grow up and become a responsible adult, or when you become responsible for someone else (have kids). Although some people never become mature.

As others have said, the best way is to autox, because there's a race every single weekend somewhere and you can get it out of your system safely. I'll have my son autox the first season he's licensed, and I'll send him to a driving school as a gift.

In the mean time, I use daily life to get some maturity into him and his brain working with critical thinking skills. I'll make comments on what I'm watching for while driving, and what other drivers are doing. And although he's almost 14, he gets to drive (supervised) occasionally on private land to learn car control, and make bad decisions where it doesn't affect others.

Just like guns and booze, give a child instant power with something very dangerous, and you'll likely have a dead kid. Build up their responsibility levels over time. Kids in Europe grow up drinking bits of wine at dinner, so it's no big deal. When American kids hit drinking age, it's WHOOEEEEE, and they're off binge drinking and dying.

Blow the motor. That seemed to help me out a lot...

thanks for the input.

It feels like i really shouldn't deserve to drive this car again until i'm older. I really want to be responsible with it... but that hasn't helped so far, has it.

I like the autocross idea, but i can't really do that every weekend, basically all of my weekends are full.

I hate being an idiot.

At least you can get the concept of being too immature for a fast car, when I was younger I was 'the best driver in the world, I play video games so I have a ton of experience'. haha It's probably best to find a little better suited car for a young, inexperienced driver, best for you and the car. I had a whole list of slow cars when I got my license and the first faster car I got I totalled it into a tree. Get a slow car with a nice system and it will all be good.

I drive fairly conservative during the daytime, but at least 2 times a week I go out late at night out near the rural farmlands- turn up my HID's and have at it... It seems to calm my nerves a bit.

HELL YEAH ! I'm invincible too !

it's just a damned shame that friends and family aren't... oh well.. not my problem... when it's time to go, it's time to go, right ?

Ohh come on, be a realist. I don't view myself as invincable, I merely drive as I want to drive and feel that my driving experience, and my Protege, will prevent anything bad from happening. I've had my car sideways blasting around onramps but I know how to control it. It's not rocket science...

Why bring up family and friends? I speed(meaning above 100) by myself, without distractions. I know my family isn't invincable, my mom nearly died a few years back from a staff infection.

Becides, what if the speed limit was 120. Everyone's doing 115 and I blow by doing 125. I would barely be speeding, so is it still dangerous?

Say you have 2 highways, 1 has a speedlimit of 65, the other a speed limit of 40(just because). Is it more dangerous to do 70 in the 65 or 70 in a 40, given the road is the same?

Anyway this topic keeps coming up and people still put blame on the person "speeding" and not the other motorists that actually cause the accidents. Enjoy your driving, it makes you a better person.

I've got to get ready for my 120mph stint...I mean I got to go to school now...yeah...

gas is expensive.
I second that.
I can't be driving above 80mph all the time especially since most of my driving is on highways. mpg goes up a lot if you do 65-70mph

When I got my Protege, the wheels were off-balance by as much as 4oz each...55 started vibrating pretty bad, by 70 it was all over the road. :) Plus the rear tires were nearly bald and not round.

get a ticket for reckless driving, hire a lawyer to keep you out of jail, then pay higher insurance. that'll keep you from speeding..

Oh, on a related note, my supercharged Miada is for sale.. :\

i was super close to having it called reckless driving.

On a side note, does insurance care if the ticket was for 30 mph over, or 5 mph over, as long as it was still a basic ticket??

Yes, they do.
More speed = more points = more risk = higher insurance premiums
