How the *%$@#! does this happen!?

Pix speak for themselves. Undercarriage of my MSP. No collisions or off-roading of any kind. Zero mods. As you can imagine, it sounds like it's straight-piped now. After this post, it's on it's way to the stealership. Hurray for Mazda's 4 year 50k warranty! I did some searching. Is this the "cracked exhaust manifold that's been talked about? I'm just rolling on 38k, I wonder what else am I going to have to replace under warranty over the next year or less.

welds broke, s*** happens.

Where do you live? If it snows in your area, I wouldn't be suprised.

I lived in the D.C. Metro area for the first year of ownership. Yes, hard winters indeed. Especially the last one before I moved. Now I live in TX. The weather is much nicer to my cars and my bike. (2thumbs)

In response to the other guys, well, I would consider an upgraded exhaust, but meh, it's still under warranty. I'll start modding when the warranty goes bye bye.

don't you feel the car pulling harder too? being that there's no exhaust and just one cat the turbo might be breathing better...makes you think twice before having that welded back...think about the horses you'll be loosing

the problem lies in the fact that the car has issues from the factory. i dont care what anyone says, or where you live...if you have those crappy welds busting in such short order, that is bulls***. my POS pontiac sunfire held up better than half of the MSPs on this board.

And BTW I have no life and feel obligated to stick around and troll this forum even though I no longer own a Mazda. The guys over at NASIOC won't accept me because I'm an asshat, so I'll stay here instead.

Get the downpipe fixed under warranty, then get an aftermarket one. It'll be easy to take off the stock one because it'll be brand new.

Downpipe is one of the best mods for the car, and it can in a way actually help the car's reliability by getting the hot exhaust gases away from the turbo faster. The bit of extra power is a bonus too.

that happend to me a long time ago around the same milage. Dealer replaced it under warranty. But it would be better to just go ahead and get a down pipe with 1 cat.

s***, I thought we had a 3yr 36k warranty....

Nope, 50,000 mile warranty. Standard on all Mazdas, gotta love that!

They are replacing it today. This is the first MAJOR issue I've had with the car. I'm glad there's still 12k worth of warranty left. I've read some of the horror stories on here. I hope this isn't the beginning of something. If I have another major issue while it's still under warranty, she's gonna go bye bye next year. It might be time to get the Mazda6Speed. :)

I'm actually surprised they are fixing it, since it's a normal wearable item. I've had this happen to two cars while living in the rust belt (Milwaukee, WI and Rochester, NY). I'm now in the DC area, and the car has seen one winter so far and there doesn't seem to be much rust. The system is getting replaced by the Vibrant stainless though, so I won't have to worry about it anymore.

Good luck getting a Mazdaspeed6 if you decide to go that route.
