Hey just wanted to see how much more money us californians pay than the rest of the states for gas.....right now its $2.96 for 91 octaine in lancaster, CA (shocked)

You're not putting 91 in a Mazda3, are you?

Lowest price I've seen around me is $2.639. When I filled up like three days ago, it was $2.559.

The car was engineered to run on 87 octane. Anything more is just dumping money right out your tailpipe and can actually be harmful.

putting premium gas in a 3 is a waste of money.

i paid $2.73 for 87 last night. it was my first fill-up since i got the car. i got 29.3 MPG on my first tank. i could definitely get use to that.

Not to mention in CA, there is an additive called MTBE which when ignited turns into a sticky substance that sticks on your intake and exhaust valves and exhaust manifold. The reason why it sticks is to reduce the amount of toxins released into the air. It is recommended that you get your fuel system completely cleaned every three years or so. With a higher octane, you are just putting that much more crap into you engine. Definately a bad idea.

I saw on the car connection that that extreme prices in the world right now are in Caracas, Venezuela $0.12 a gallon, and in Amsterdam, Netherlands something like $6.80 a gallon. (equivalent). I guess that Venezuela has a high volume of fossil fuel production, that is why it is so low. I paid $2.83 for 87 last week.

wow...i didn't know that..thanks for the info.....but what about w/ a turbo???cause thats what i am planning to do...

Yes, with a turbo you will need higher octane to prevent detonation.

2.699 for 87 this morning here in hell, I mean South Florida.

I am in Germany right now (cheers) and gas is over $5.00/gallon for the cheapest unleaded. Ouch. Lets just say there are a lot of bikers and not too many modded cars! Tons of BMW, Audi, Mercedes, and VW. My cab today was a new Mercedes and it hauled ass on the backroads!
Peace.

i am in northern Illinois and it is $2.76 for the cheap stuff (sad1)

Filled up this morning for $2.889 and was excited to find it.
By lunch time, prices were up to $3.159

Atlanta Ga is freaking out and we went from 2.50 to over 3$ in a two hour span, I got gas Monday so I am still ok, but my wife today was forced to get premium becasue the staion was out of regular and plus, people were waiting in lines to get gas for up to an hour, thats just rediculess. This weekend is supposed to be worse, I guess I should forget about autocrossing on Sunday, not at 4$ a gallon.

I saw 15 car lines tonight for people gettin 2.69 97 octane before the price goes up. I was used to 3$ before for 93, so it's not big deal to me. Oh wait, I'm broke..
