How much is gas where you live?

Yeah... but it makes people feel better. Misery loves company.

i guess. it's just extra stress that people shouldn't burden themselves with, ya know. it's not like it's something we can control. trust me, i get happy when gas prices go down, but at the same time i don't get frustrated when it goes up either. just gotta live with it and be happy that it's not anywhere near what europeans pay for their gas

Guess I can't complain to much. I'm the same guy that buys lots of racing fuel when I hit the track and don't think twice about how much it cost me. lol

Hehe! You people on that side of the Atlantic don't know how lucky you are with your gas prices. I filled up yesterday and it was 91.9 pence (UK) a litre. Most of that is tax. :(

In US terms that's...well, I don't know but you can work it out...

Great board all round, btw.

1.60 USD per litre, X 3.79 (to convert to gallons).

6.06 USD per gallon.

Ow.

In other news I filled up today for 3.10 a gallon, and that was the BJs member price >_<. Somehow it doesn't seem nearly as bad.

Welcome to the forums btw!

Do you guys get a Mazda3 diesel over there?

Painful, innit? :(

Yeah, we do get the diesel version, but in terms of fuel expense it's no help, as that particular fuel is even more expensive than unleaded...

And I believe in terms of fuel costs, the Dutch are only slightly lower than us.

Diesel is more expensive here too, but with diesel cars (rare as they are, I don't even know if we can buy any new diesel cars anymore) getting 55 miles to the gallon, it still ends up being cheaper.

We had diesel VW Passats, Jettas, and Golfs here up until their last generations. The new generations don't have diesel models here, at least not yet.

That being said, our diesel also has high sulfur content or so I hear, so the diesel cars that we do have aren't really too good for the environment.

Last time I had a diesel model (an old Vauxhall/GM) was about 12 years ago and it was much cheaper then. In th UK, we always get at least one diesel option on virtually every model that is sold here, some are much better than others, obviously.

That said, as far I've been told, our diesel IS low(ish) sulphur, and so is more environmentally safer. You'd think our fantastic chancellor Gordon Brown, would have given a tax incentive to diesel drivers if this was the case wouldn't you? But no.

Bloody politicians... (pissed)

They say that gas is going to go to a record high this summer.....glad i did not get a SUV a couple months ago........

Hey Phil! Welcome to the N.A. boards! Nice to have you aboard!
You're right! We do have it lucky... and for many years now. We're just spoiled because of it.

I remember reading in R&T about 15 yrs. ago that in Italy gas was the equivalent of $6.00/gal even back then. I had always kept that in mind from then 'til now.
A fairly large percentage of what we pay for gas (petrol) are taxes too. Federal, state and "pump" tax is all part of the mix. The stations that sell gas are making very little on it/gal... usually only a few cents.
But it is hard to accept when the price jumps from $1.00/gal American to three times that much in a little over a year, and we know that the oil companies are the ones making the BIG money from it.
As you probably heard/know, Exxon/Mobile released their 4th quarter earnings a few months back and they had made more money than ever before, as did all the big oil barons. Billions of dollars more!! That means their CEO, COO's, CFO's, VP's (of which they have a million), Board of Directors and stock holders got some big, fat bonuses for that, on top of their usual inflated/bloated salaries!! Most people don't have that kind of cushion, nor do our salaries go up even enough to keep up w/inflation!! What's wrong with this picture? (braindead

Hi there, thank you, nice to be here.

Yeah, I saw the fat, fat profits the oil companies are making. Oh, to be on the board of directors of Exxon or one of the other companies.

It seems particularly difficult for those Brits who have lived in the US for a considerable time to get used to our gas prices again. I have a female colleague, a Brit who lived in Baltimore for 15 years and from what she's said, I think she still has problems mentally (and financially of course) adjusting back to our prices, even though she's been back in Blighty since Nov '02.

:(

Then you must also know that our Politicians took the CEO's from the "BIG five" (in the Godfather's terms, the "heads of the five families") to task about price gouging just after these profits hit the news. For a (short) while prices came down a bit and stabilized, but since our politics is so highly engrained by these companies and their lobbyists and campaign money, that it was just a temporary farce on their part anyway. I knew it wouldn't last long, and that no further action would be taken against them.
I guess they think we're stupid or something? It's time to vote these suckers out, in my opinion, and not just because of our gas prices either.

Be thankful that in the UK (from what I read) there is a developed mass transit system that is functional.

I once looked up how it would be to take a train back home from school for the weekend (to go back for my sister's college graduation) and It would have taken more than 24 hours to get back, when it takes me 5-5.5 hours to drive.

A full tank of fuel each way, and premium fuel at that. Hooray :(

wow, premium is at $3.37/gallon today (Redlands,CA)... regular $3.17/gallon....

$2.83 for regular in North Eastern Massachusetts. On the other hand, I got my best mileage per tank of gas on my 3 S Touring (2.3L engine): 31.7MPG.
