How much can you fit in your 5?

Last Sunday I was going to the mall with my wife, my son who is 8 months, my two nephews who are 6 years old and 2 months and my sister in law. In my 5 we were able to fit both babies both in thier car seats. A booster seat for my 6 year old nephew, a graco metro light stroller for my son and a small stroller for the 2 month that all you have to do is snap in the car seat. I was very suprised on how much we were able to put inside the car and the three adults.

Hrmm... We take the 5 from LA to SD about 3 out of every 4 weekends a month. On average we have my wife, our 7 mo. old daughter in her car seat, and me in three seats. The last row is folded down to fit our dog in her medium sized crate in the back. The graco travel system stroller. A portable swing for our child. 3 bags full of clothes for the weekend and my backpack with my laptop and other shiat. My wife sits in the second row with our daughter leaving the front seat pushed up all the way so she has tons of legroom. It's awesome.

Here's what we cram into the 5 for regular long distance trips:

2 adults and 2 kids, a medium size crate with dog, three duffel bags, portacrib, air mattress, two laptop computers complete with accessories, diaper bag, additional bag full of dog dish/food and related stuff, small cooler for drinks and snacks, three backpacks worth of child friendly toys and books, and an umbrella stroller. A few pillows and blankets for the kids because we travel at night. Oh, and now that the weather's colder, heavy coats and gear.

Admittedly, with the 5 this packing takes a little planning, but it all still fits, and we can still see out the back window.

I can't say we pack our 5 often, but on our last trip to SoCal we had both my wife and myself, four bags of clothes (for a week's stay), laptop bag, pillows and blankets for my wife (she likes to sleep while I carve up the 5 FWY at night)...I also had a complete 4 piece Premier drum set with all of its hardware I was bringing down for my nephew...

I of course took the driver's seat with my wife in the front passenger seat reclined flat so she could sleep...We had the other 2nd row seat flat as well as the third row to fit everything, and we had ample room left...

As for passengers alone, just last weekend I took my wife, her mother, her aunt, and her grandmother and cousin out for some Christmas shopping...6 adults total in the 5 and just like our trip to SoCal it handled it like a pro :D

This is the best car I've ever owned!!!

Damn! does everyone who owns a 5 have kids? i am a bachelor and i bought one simply because i can fit my bike, surfboards, and other toys into it and it still has great gas mileage (and i didn't want an element!)...

I do get called a soccer mom once in a while by my buddies, but for the most part, i get compliments all around!

4 adults + 2 month old baby, his stroller, tons of christmas shopping bags.
I love my 5. And yes I get the 5 because of our newborn ;)

Yep, 2 kids (7/6), and a dog. Needed enough room for a couple 8 hour drives a year, plus extra room is great. Will be loading up the 5 for 8 hour christmas trip. Roof rack will help.

Not sure if this vehicle is my wife's, or mine yet. I love the vehicle, but at 6'2", the leg room leaves a lot to be desired, so might be wife's vehicle more than mine.

yeah. the legroom isn't so great up front. i'm 6'0" and i have the seat all the way back and as low as possible and it's still a little cramped up front. one more click back would be great.

Me, my friend, 4 hookers and a ton of booze.

Well, it's gonna be tough to beat that... :)

Most stuff I've packed into our 5 at one time
-Me, wife, and two kids & their car seats
-pack n play
-double stroller
-medium size cooler
-a week's worth of clothes (one small suitcase for me and the boys, and one large suitcase for my wife) ;)

Now THAT is how you roll!!! (lick)

RE: emb623
I don't have any kids. Just me, my girl, a hedgehog & a chinchilla.

I'm honestly not all that happy with the room in our 5. Once a rear facing child seat is put in, the front passenger seat becomes pretty much useless since it has to be pulled up as far as it can go. The third row seats have next to no leg space, and are only good for small children. And with the third row folded down it's still hard to fit in a stroller with other items. My wife and I are considering getting rid of it after only 4 mths, and picking up an MPV instead.

Better hurry to scoop up a remaining '06 or you'll have to buy used.

Two pics of the 5's amazing cargo capacity. First one is a P5 hatch and bumper in Rogue's 5 and the other is a full/double mattress from IKEA in aMaff's 5. I love those cars! :D

wrong subforum ya nub! Mazda5, not Protege5 :)

but considering the cargo capacity of the Protege5, the Mazda5 must be amazing

Why would I buy used when I can wait for the 2007 model? The 2007 has also been fully redesigned, so it might be worth waiting for actually.

I blame the pain meds for my mis-comprehension!!! :D

(but it's always nice to show off the versatility of the sport wagons)

we don't get the new fan-dangled mpv. it's being "replaced" by the cx-9. hooray for more ******* suvs on the road. unless, they're importing it to canada, which would suck for us down in jesusland.
