That can be a problem but I think you DD your cars, right? Garage queens end up being terrible cars. You NEED to use it to keep parts, oil, fluids moving so that seals, gaskets, etc. gets lubrication and don’t end up dry. A car is still a material possession; it has no emotions/feelings. Driving it hard (with limits obviously) once in a while is a very good thing. Example: turn on AC once in a while lube compressor seals, rev it to move deposits on cylinder heads, don’t let it sit too long (like season cars) b/c stagnant old oil can lead to sludge buildup. I don’t know what kind of cars you had but most cars after the 90s can easily last over 100K (except some American/Korean makes). Bottom line, unless you are own a collectors car that only see sunny weekends, drive the damn thing!I have had many cars, kept them all about 5 years and then troubles started. Mileage wise never been over 60k miles and had to trade in because of problems. I concluded that it must be bad luck because I baby my cars. Well my Mazda 5 finally reached 36k and still going strong. I am really amazed when I see thinks like 100 and 200 k whether its km or miles. Pretty impressive. I will be happy if I reach 60 k with my luck before something blows.
Had a '95 Rolla and agree 1000%. Was hit in a pit maneuver by a wannabe racer per witness accounts and spun and rolled (no pun intended) the car. Bent rear axle and crushed the pass. A pillar. Both my friend can I came out with minor bumps/burses but otherwise walked away! I shall forever love that car. Ugly and boring as heck but it was a great reliable appliance.markuszoom5: have you had a Corolla? You might die of boredom yourself before the car does. Not that I am suggesting to try. Actually, the around 99 vintage Corollas are pretty nice cars to drive, especially in the 5-speed version.
Well, I have changed my transmission fluid at 36500 miles, and the car shifts slightly smoother. The dealer flushed it with genuine mazda fluid for $189. They used 12 quarts. The old fluid was something like sewer water both in color and smell. So we will see if that will keep the car from blowing up the transmission at higher mileage. And also I change the oil regularly, every 5k, so I am hoping I can get at least 60,000 miles without any problems. I already replaced the rear shocks at 25,000 but that to me is minor and it was free.
It would be interesting to see how your ATF looks/tests in 30k miles.
I have a 2008 AT with 108k miles on it...
Can the people that post the mileage also post if they had a tranny flush or drain and at what mileages. I want to see if there is a correlation to the AT light coming on for people and lack of tranny flush or drain. It might establish a "must" service for mazda5 ever 30-40k if that is the case. That way everybody that owns one might be alerted and will know that it's essential to do that service just like an oil change...
For someone that has owned both, do you think the 12+ is buttoned together better than the 1st gen? I've had an 06, 08 and currently a 10 model. They have all had some annoying squeaks and rattles on the interior. Enough to make me second guess buying another Mazda in the future. Am hoping they made some improvements on the redesign that fixed this.
Seems the two 3's we had were the same. The 2004 model had some random noises on the interior. The 2010 3 we bought was solid.
