When I bought the car, I got around 29 mpg mixed driving, around 33 mpg on the highway. Now I get 26 mpg mixed driving, and about 30 mpg on the highway. Unfortunately, our fuel here in MN has a lot of ethanol and it really kills the mileage. When they raised the limit from 10% to 20% ethanol in our state, I noticed an immediate drop in mileage. That's when my mileage went from 29 mpg to 26 mpg. It's been that way ever since. Stupid bastards.
Anyone who knows about fuels knows that ethonal is not a good thing for fuel. It takes more energy to produce it, it provide half as much energy as normal gas, the fuel gets stale quicker, and it's not that much cleaner burning in modern day cars. Also, if you're a boater, a lot of the older engines run terrible on fuel with ethonal. There's no benefit to it, unless you're an oil company. $$$ CHA-CHING! $$$
I need to start researching which gas stations carry gas without ethonal around here. I have heard there are some, but I have no clue where. I'm happy when I drive to other states and my mileage goes back up. Unfortunately its only temporary.
Just so you guys know, your poor mileage has a lot to do with the fuel you are running, and not so much the car... unless it badly needs a tuneup. Those who live in unlucky areas, like me, are just getting screwed by the oil comanies.
