How many miles can you get on 1 tank?

i think i figured out why my milage blows...

so i changed my filter on my custom cold air from my ebay intake to k&n filter... and my milage is already wayyyyyy up... considering ive been driving like a BAMF.... im at like 200 on half a tank
i'm cleaning my filter tonight...

I'm not sure what I get with mine but when I went to NH from Houlton to Exeter I used on tank of gas topped full up! and it took us 4.5-5 hrs. I was quite impressed actually...

When I bought the car, I got around 29 mpg mixed driving, around 33 mpg on the highway. Now I get 26 mpg mixed driving, and about 30 mpg on the highway. Unfortunately, our fuel here in MN has a lot of ethanol and it really kills the mileage. When they raised the limit from 10% to 20% ethanol in our state, I noticed an immediate drop in mileage. That's when my mileage went from 29 mpg to 26 mpg. It's been that way ever since. Stupid bastards.

Anyone who knows about fuels knows that ethonal is not a good thing for fuel. It takes more energy to produce it, it provide half as much energy as normal gas, the fuel gets stale quicker, and it's not that much cleaner burning in modern day cars. Also, if you're a boater, a lot of the older engines run terrible on fuel with ethonal. There's no benefit to it, unless you're an oil company. $$$ CHA-CHING! $$$

I need to start researching which gas stations carry gas without ethonal around here. I have heard there are some, but I have no clue where. I'm happy when I drive to other states and my mileage goes back up. Unfortunately its only temporary.

Just so you guys know, your poor mileage has a lot to do with the fuel you are running, and not so much the car... unless it badly needs a tuneup. Those who live in unlucky areas, like me, are just getting screwed by the oil comanies.

I recently changed out the spark plugs (Bosch 2-prong first time), did the oil change, coolant, etc & just hit 300 miles with 3/4 tank. I'm pretty happy considering it was mixture of highway & city driving this past week. 60,000 miles, I think this has been the best gas mileage. I need to take care of my car a little more!

154K miles on the car..

Still knocks down between 400 and 420 miles per tank.

Oh if only i could drive normal.

Since like week 3 of ownership of my 02 p5 ive never seen a tank above 300. I usually get 280-90 outta 12.5-13.25 gallons. I also drive like i have somewhere important to go. Thank goodness im not turboed otherwise id be in boost 80% of the time. Gotta learn to slow down i guess. Oh yeah and i have 76000 on the clock.

well.... i just went on a road trip, all highway going about 75-80 most of the way... a little slower at times

i went through half a tank and when i filled and calculated i found i got 30mpg going down...

personally i expected better.. but then again gas milage does drop over like 75 for most cars... guess ours too....

i've seen a few AFR maps for our cars... and im pretty sure somewhere between 3500 and 4000 rpm it jumps from like 16:1 to like 10:1.... maybe i hit that most of the way...

Some of my Highway mileage driving between NY & MI and back. The lower mpg with the lower mph* is a result of rubber neckers and construction.

Avg Speed(mph) mpg milage gallons used time driven (hrs)
64.96 30.6 243.6 7.957 3.75

63.79 29.2 239.2 8.181 3.75

I average 380, (~33.5mpg) but fill up when I get around 1/4 tank because of the distance I drive. The most I have ever gotten was 460 miles, and the car was running on fumes.

i recently got 31 mpg pretty much all highway but going near 80 the whole time... which cuts down on milage

i find im havign better performance and gas milage with 89 octane...

I go to about 415 miles or so and then I fill up. Usually takes around 13.5 gallons to fill up the tank at that point.

How on earth do you guys get so much mileage!? I got my car new and used to get 325-350 on a tank but lately I have only gotten 260-275!!! Grant it I am in Arizona so my ac has been on for a few months but it shouldn't take up that much. Anyone have an idea why the decrease in mileage?

I'm driving from Duluth, GA (just north of Atlanta) to Jacksonville, FL this weekend (and back). Should be about an 810 - 20 mile or so round trip (give or take), 99% interstates / highway. I shouldn't have too much trouble with traffic, and I've got cruise, so I'll see if I can remember to keep a semi constant interstate speed (75 - 80. Not the best range for mileage, but I'm not going 800 miles at the damn speedlimit lmao). It'll be a little harder to maintain speed on the highways, but I'll do my damnest and write down my mileage and amount of gas put in at each stop. I'll try to eliminate all variables I can, within reason. I'm going on a trip, not doing scientific research lol, so there'll have to be some fudge room.

Now that you've spent the time to read all that, you can return from the edge of your seat (I know, exciting stuff right?), and I'll post on Sunday or Monday my results.
