the other can also be removed with the replacement of the DP, or you can opt to pay extra for a downpipe with cat welded in.

no, when you replace the downpipe, only one cat would be removed. the second cat can only be replaced by a test pipe, or some sort of custom shop fabrication/dump valve.

The CPE Downpipe replaces both Cats in one false swoop, as does the ATP I believe. The CS Downpipe however, doesn't replace both. You would have to buy the Corksport DP and "Race" Pipe to replace both of them.

I had the CPE before my work tanked and it was an EXCELLENT piece, only downside is no V-Band for future turbo upgrades if that's your goal.

Well I just did the Test Pipe, so I saw that big ass cat come off.

Is that cat the bigger restriction or is the harsh bend of the DP the bigger restriciton? What's your preferance on DP set ups? What do you think of ATP?

The first cat is a big restriction but the stock downpipe itself is the bigger restriction.

My preference on a downpipe would be the divorced design of the Corksport model. If you're interested in learning more about divorced downpipe design PM me or google it. With that said, the Corksport model does not come with a catalytic converter as previously mentioned.

According to the CorkSport website, the answer is yes you can bolt their divorced dp to the stock second cat or a test pipe:

"The CorkSport Mazdaspeed 3 Power Series Downpipe gives you faster turbo spool up which results in a larger power band. Gains in power have been up to 21 wheel horse power when installed on otherwise stock Mazdaspeed 3s. The Mazdaspeed 3 downpipe bolts to the stock second catalyst or aftermarket racepipes."

A big problem running the DP into the stock second cat is going to be the turbulence created by the exhaust gases basically hitting a wall and spinning as they impact the smaller piping, which would than result in increased back pressure and thus negatively impact the point of upgrading the DP in the first place.

I would honestly say, stick with something that replaces everything in one go. Two cats is unneeded to begin with.

That or don't use the second cat at all and go with the Corksport downpipe and race pipe. I have their race pipe and dual cat-back exhaust. It sounds fantastic and really enhanced the performance of my car at lower (1500-2800) and higher (4800-5600) revs.

You don't need a catalyst in there. But for the sake of passing emissions it will probably be easiest for you to have a catted downpipe and then just swap your test pipe back in. A catted downpipe is also more practical, but not entirely necessary.
