How many Brits? Fancy a cuppa?

Update. I have posted this elsewhere, and it may well pay to keep responses to one page. Page 11 of THIS THREAD

Had a phone call today from Mazda (so has some other posters) He opened the conversation that he was responding to my registering with the on-line petition. Some readers may recall I was sceptical on this one as was tailored towards the North American market, however despite my reservations I did put my name into the mix.

I let the guy (Andy) explain all the vagaries and reasoning behind said failure and the fact there is a limited window to the signal being "pinged" back to the server. He went on to tell me (in effect) they are beta testing a fix, and if all goes well, should be sorted mid to end of October.

When he finished with the script, I took him back to his opening comments and asked him to confirm he did in fact tell me this phone call was due to my input on the on-line petition, which he concurred. I then asked him, "If it wasn't for me filling out that petition which was not geared around the UK market, would I have had this particular phone call"?

After a bit of umming & ahhing and after I pushed him, he gave me a straight NO!

He was not up to speed with all my case notes and previous contact I had made, but he caught up whilst we were on the phone. I made it clear that the "support" I have "enjoyed" to date from Mazda has been lamentable.

He agreed that we the consumer may have been furnished with misinformation in particular by Tom Tom, but there again in mitigation the cause of failure had not been fully identified.

He seemed to be on the point of offering an extension to "live Services" once resolved, but I explained to him that I have brokered a deal with Tom Tom and I'll be looking for something else. This will be discussed in the future, and as a matter of courtesy I probably won't divulge in a public medium what they are prepared to offer. I feel each case will be individual, and should be treated likewise.

So the moral of the story is, if you haven't registered and completed the on-line petition, you will be at the bottom of the pile.

Interesting, and in my case impossible, it would seem. I pay a lot of attention to my tyres, (well, they are the only bit that connects the car to the road so they are pretty damned critical). My car is equipped with Yokohama Geolander G96A tyres (225/65 x 17) and in trying to ascertain whether these are All Season tyres or just Summer tyres (I think it's the latter) I cannot find that exact brand and spec ANYWHERE on the Internet. I can find Geolander ATS, G91a etc etc but not G96As.

I have never known a manufacturer spec the exact BRAND of tyre before and think this is complete rubbish. When the time comes to replace the tyres, whether one or two, I will look for a decent quality brand that meets the spec by way of size, speed rating etc.

Yes, agree with all this, complete Mazda rubbish. I intend to reply asking if fitting non-recommended tyres could compromise the TPMS then why isn't there a warning to this effect in the handbook.

I just signed as well. Been thinking about some upgrades to the car....not a bloody chance. Not giving them one penny more until they resolve this. Already out of pocket on the live services subscription which is due to run out in a few weeks. When I did an update the other day, Tomtom gave me a reminder about it. Guess they won't be getting any of my motoring expenditure either.

And after I wrote this, my patience snapped and I wrote Mazda a fairly firm complaint email and fired it off. Had been prepared to give them time to resolve, but being out of pocket really grinds and I want something out of this. Call me mercenary, but big corporates only react when their pockets are about to get lighter, or they are about to see their PR take a hammering.

Along with having random connections to BT with my Galaxy phone, I also have the message tag but its always been greyed out.

That is until today? Tab was available so I selected it and got the message window up saying something about downloading will show all messages as read.
So I selected yes and guess what, it failed to download.

Strange things happen with this car, is it a coincidence that I recently spoke to a Mazda man, and now a few days later the message tab is available?

I dont even have the message tab, still waiting for mazda to get back to me re: upgrade to stereo on car built oct 2012.

I received my call after 5-pm Thursday, and during the 20 minute conversation I seem to recall I picked up he wasn't in the office Friday, then of course the weekend got in the way.

I did give the guy a very hard time, and I made it clear I'm not a happy bunny, and would expect some serious consideration when it comes to recompense for my inconvenience. So if nobody else gets a call from a member of his team, suppose I might be considered blameworthy. There again, why should I even consider that point when there is a genuine cause for complaint and the Mazda resolution team are woefully deficient, so I will absolve myself from blame.

Ironically it is working this week, will be in Cornwall next week, so am anticipating once again services will evaporate yet again.

FWIW I don't have any bluetooth issues at all. I use a Samsung Galaxy S4 and it has never failed to connect/download msgs/make calls etc.
I know older versions of bluetooth don't cater for all the newer features - like being able to download messages. Some don't even allow pass-through of phonecalls.

Might be worth looking for a 'compatibility list' for bluetooth versions (unless you already have this and your phone/bluetooth versions are supposedly supported)

Edit:
Found the list (as you probably already have yourself), and your phone is on it and seems compatible. Does anyone else use the Galaxy Y with these problems?

My complaint to Mazda got a response. 2 in fact. The first one was a standard marketing department email about what they were doing, working to resolve blah blah. I was about to reply to them and give them what for and the Newport Mazda dealership phoned me. The latest they have is an update to fix the live traffic issues MIGHT be forthcoming sometime mid to end October 2013 (but I can't formally quote them on that). Re-stated my case I'm after a refund for the rubbish live service (from either Tomtom or Mazda, I don't care which) and some other future considerations. Left them with that to ponder.

Still awaiting any kind of response from Tomtom about my refund, so they are next in the cross-hairs.

Yeah, as prhac stated in post #883, USB playback from track#1 is a known issue - I was aware of it before I picked up vehicle but I just thought I'd include this as a current 'niggle'.

Yep this really annoys me too. Also the sorting is rubbish and is no doubt linked. I'm constantly having to change to 'artist' and then scroll down to the artist I want and select the relevant album. No ability to jump a page at a time either.

Agree too. This would be a safety issue if Mazda fitted bespoke wheels that only the special tyres that they use Yokohama to make, fitted properly. Any tyre of the correct size, speed and load rating will be fine with TPMS.

www.camskill.co.uk are a good place to order tyres from and compare prices.

Try Voice Recognition and just say "album -name of album-" eg "album joshua tree". No scrolling involved. Also can say "artist -name of artist-" to play all songs by the artist named.

To use Voice Rec just push the Talk button on the steering wheel and wait for the beep.

Thanks. I'll try that. I'm still reading the huge owner's manual and not yet got to voice recognition.(2thumbs)

Yeah the owners manual is a beast! I'm about halfway through now. I reckon the butler did it..

Another topic; has anyone else got the dealer fitted LED DRL's?

I got mine thrown into the deal after some heavy bargaining, and love the look of them.
However, I find it a little odd that they don't stay on when you switch the side lights on.
They provide more visibility and light than the pretty poor front sidelights.
So in low-light situations I find myself thinking, should I turn on the sidelights to get the rears to come on, but lose a little visibility at the front,
Or go to full headlights and blind everyone in front?
Maybe its just me... (dunno)

Also slightly surprised there's no UK-based Mazda forum. Seems a little claustrophobic in this thread sometimes.

NO its not just you I agree with you on both counts

Might well be because there's not that many of them around given that a 3-4 month order lead time is not unusual and Quashqais , CRV (both UK produced) and iX35 etc seem to be much more readily available.

Have had mine for 4 months now and have probably seen no more than 15-20 on the roads since then (and some of them have been the same vehicle more than once). I have a Mazda main dealer within 6 miles and don't even see any on the forecourt more often than not when passing.

There are numerous forums around for the MX5 however. I am off to Sandringham this weekend for the National MX5 owners club meet, expect to see between 6-800 MX5s there, we had 1200+ at Chatsworth a few years back

Our DRls go off with the side lights too...
Have you noticed that they go off also when the handbrake is on- stops annoying driver in front at traffic lights/queues.
