i dropped my p5 with tein s techs...seeing that i cant find tokico shocks for the car, how long do you think ill have before i blow my struts/shocks? and what kinda price am i looking at when they do?

It really depends on the roads on which you drive.....there have been guys here that their stockers only lasted 15K miles....and others which have good roads to drive on that have 36K miles and are still going strong with no problems yet. Guess you are just going to have to wait and see.

As for Cost.....figure about $500 - $700 for parts....based on the price of adjustable shocks now.

Most of my stock Mazda struts have lasted about 60K tops with the stock springs. When I had Eibachs on my RX7 I got about 35K off the stockers before I had to upgrade them. My best guess would be that you would get about 30-45K out of them depending on the factors Nuke mentioned above.

hmmm...how will you know when you need new shocks, and where can i find them (ive searched and i cant find anything but tokico and theyre TBA for the last 5 months at least)...also when i get new shocks, will i need to get new struts also or does that come with (im not suspensionally inclined sorry)

you'll know when you need them. The car will lean in any direction inertia tells it to as you drive. At high speeds, your car will start bouncing violently up and down. My old escort needed them replaced and I waited a month. Anything over 65 would make my car seem to have hydrualics possessed by the dark lord.

so where can i find shocks?

EDIT

ok, i found the shocks, now my question is has anyone here blown their struts besides accidents??? should i be worried about them or not really? ARGH i hate when that crap gets under my skin, now im paranoid!

Main way to tell if your struts are blown (like Micah said) is when they are leaking, or the car wallows over bumps, or it looks like it is sagging.

damn i wish i knew how long that will be from now...im generally careful when i go over bumps and whatnot...

ps - hurry up and post something im not that superstitious but you are at your 666th post

I think you are confused.....we, protege owners, have STRUTS...not shocks...

well actually the shock is part of the strut...they are in fact one in the same part. they are an intragrual part of the suspension, they support the springs.....

Just put aside for a set of better shocks(struts) because the stocks are crap. I've already replaced both rears now the freaking front left is blown. I baby my car and i stay away from the city so there ya go. You will no when they are blown cuz the oil from the shocks mix with brake dust is a b**** to clean, it will be all over the strut.
