how goods stock bov?

kk i was just wondering bc im ab to get a ms3 soon...i just bought my brother raptor he had for a lil while and im just using the greddy type rs flange...

By the way, the MS3 uses a bypass valve. If you install a BOV, the computer will definitely have problems with mass flow rates.

Just admit you want you a loud blow noise without paying a hooker.

Don't waste your time or money with a BOV. They will likely cause CELs, do nothing for performance and they sound like s***.

Everyone has their own opinions.

The main one going around that I know of is " If you don't much care about performance and wanna hear a nice sound get a BOV and vent to atmosphere. Now if your all into flat out performance and don't care much about the sound of it leave it stock or in my case (plastic bpv? wtf) i'd just replace it cuz its plastic and a aftermarket one WILL hold more boost if your uping the PSI later on.

There is - run a blow-through MAF (maybe not so easy on a MS3) and VTA. I'm doing that on my P5 and no issues with stumbling, backfiring, bad idling. Plus I really don't believe there is such a huge performance advantage to recirculating. When you're running hard the turbo is always spooled, and it only takes a split second to re-pressurize the air in the intake system after venting during a shift. I would love to see a difference in quarter-mile ETs based on recirc vs VTA.

What i'm going to do is order the a recirc BOV.. probably HKS SSQV. Run it VTA for a few days and see how the car reacts and then run it recirc and see which I like better. I HATE the sound of intakes on turbo cars.. you hear it suck the air in and then blow out under any kind of acceleration.. it gets ******* annoying really quickly to me. I had an STi for 1 1/2 years and couldn't stand it.

Course I didn't get the MS3 for another race car and am not gonna dump a buncha money in it but, I do want it to sound and look good.

Venting has more of effect on drivability at part throttle. At some point during part throttle the turbo is boosting slightly but if you ease off the gas enough the BOV will crack slightly cause theres not enough pressure in manifold to hold it shut. Essentially making a long continious vent. Hesitaion studder and bucking are all issues I had on my elipse with VTA. These issues are almost non existant while racing as it only opens for a split second between shifts and then is closed and back to normal. Not worth it in my opinion. You gotta drive it back to back to really notice a diffrence. Also one can tighten the sping in most BOV so tight this it mimimizes the venting time and reduces issues. downside would be more turbo surge.

Again, that's because a car with the BOV placed after the MAF will have these issues when the air is vented to the atmosphere but the car's ECU doesn't realize it and keeps adding fuel. There are three options:

1) Run a recirculating BOV
2) Run a dual setup (as MSP owners have done) or use a dual mode valve, like a Turbosmart Dual port BOV. This recircs under light boost (ie at part throttle) and vents to atmosphere under hard shifts.
3) Relocate the MAF so the BOV is first, ie the MAF is the last thing the air goes through before it gets to the throttle body. This way the MAF only meters the air going to the engine, not the air vented by the BOV.

Any other solution will cause the problems mentioned by other members (or you will have to make compromises between performance and driveability somewhere).

i ran my greddy type s VTA for a week or so .....absolutely no driveabilty issues, but i did notice a loss of MPG.

i use the HKS SSQV all most 3 weeks and i dont have any prob

No problems with the fit on a stock MS3 with stock airbox? Was reading on another website that the SSQV would rub against the airbox.

no the the problem is it barely fits under intercooler cover. If you take it off then put IC cover on after bov is installed ur good.
