How do I improve start up performance

If people can double the horsepower on cars, why can't they make them start in 1 cycle. I think its possible
doubling the horsepower and making it start on the first cycle are two differen't things cars with double their stock hp still start up the same as it did at factory specs some actually start up worse come to think of it but if you think its possible and you wanna try more power to ya

1.How many miles on your Protege(5)? 37,000
2.Recent tune up gone wrong? tune ups all in check
3.Change your oil regularly? bought the car used, I change oil regularly, but you never know about the other guy.
4.Go to Autozone or somewhere that can do a load test on the battery. Definatly going to check this.
5.Check engine light on? No lights are on
6.Notice any lost in performance? I have only noticed a gain in performace since I bought the car 1,500 miles ago. I did oil change and injector cleaner.
7.Any mods? No mods yet.
8.Best of all....when did you last notice this happens? Happens every single time, although its worse the longer the car sits.

I will start working on the situation at the beginning of next month, I am poor cuz all my exterior mods I ordered and my car payment is due (hand)

My car runs 17s in the quarter, BUT IT STARTS TWICE AS FAST, SO I WILL GET A HEAD START IN THE RACE!!!!

(sarcasm)

Anyway, better battery, and prime the fuel pump by turning the key halfway before turning it over.

Uhh...I have a Optima Yellow Top and a yellow push button start...but I like to impress myself by cranking up the stereo when I start the car... (shrug)

If you recently change your spark plugs, they need to be gap right......might want to double check. Unless I'm mistaken, should be 40 on the gap.

I noticed you mentioned that the longer the car sits, the worse it gets (on start up).

I'd go back a few posts and check where you're getting your gas from; perhaps get a fuel pressure check too to make sure it's up to spec.

If you want a nice sound at startup, get a new exhaust. I have a magnaflow catback and it sounds great on startup. Similar to my old Trans Am. Obviously not the same of course!

I don't think it's worth it to try speeding up the startup. Though my suggestion is wire in a 50 shot of nitrous trigger with the ignition. Turn the key, spray the nitrous, engine will have 50 more hp on startup.

Mine starts up quickly with an optima red top and if I wait a second for the fuel pump to build up pressure before using the ignition. If you want it to sound cool when you start it, get a blaring exhaust. You won't sound cool driving away, though. :P

Lol, are you serious? (rlaugh)

My car had never really started fast......

last week I had a problem with my EGR valve....basically my car had started to idle very rough, but would drive fine.....it would also start really poorly, as it would turn over a bunch of times before starting....after taking out the EGR valve and cleaning it(Soak in brake cleaner and then oil the shaft), and then resetting the computer(disconnect the neg battery terminal for 5 mins), the car starts up faster than it did new, and runs beautifull....my egr was completely seized in the open position.....car is only 1.5 yrs old.....it had been obviously going for a while, despite the fact it just got bad recently.......anyways, it was a pretty easy fix, with no money spent(had the brake cleaner already)......might be a soultion to your problem......1/2 hour fix......worth a shot, it worked for me by surprise....

Nice. I will try it.
