how dangerous is redline

drive it like you stole it!, rev limiter is there for a reason, although daily driving i never go past 4k...id suggest the same for others, but im sure if you aren't bouncing your car off the rev limiter 4 times a day, you will be ok =)

4K? Good for gas mileage though. Going to redline won't hurt your car. It's over that will do damage, sooner or later. I have an automatic and if I floor it it shifts right at redline (6500) so Mazda must feel there is some headroom there. Now if you have changed internals redline may shift, but keep your oil and coolant fresh and the factory setting is nothing to worry about. The factory advertised Zoom-Zoom so whoever works out the warranty policy knows that some percentage of owners will be using all of the performance they built in.

good answers, I usually shift between 4k and 4500 unless Im in traffic for daily driving, traffic, of course, forces me to do 3k-3500 shifts.

When I really wanna get up and going I hit 5500 on a regular basis and actually never feel the ned to push it much over 6k, unless im racing that is. I will need a new clutch sooner than later though.

scifiman is right. rev limits are put in to place at a safe ceiling level. the engine can handle more.

i visit redline on a regular basis....i guess it doesnt help that my peak power is right at redline ;)

I occasionally get up to fuel cut-off at around 7000, but most of the time keep it below 6500. No ill effects so far (knock on wood).

how dangrous it to take your car to high rpms on a regular basis?(scratch)

I love going to ~7300 RPM all the time. LOL. Just make sure you're full of oil. You'll burn more because of the piston oil squirters.

awwwhh... The power of the 1st gen's. 7000rpms (Redline) 7400rpms fuel-cut. My old 94 LX was quicker than my MP3. Had quite a bid of mod's done to it. That thing would get up to speed's fast!!!!

i have an injen CAI and when i start flooring it i can feel the presure building up on my bov, and i hit the rev limiter at like 4500 sometimes then i shift relasing a massive turkey that can be heard from 100 feet away.... i dunno whats up gatta get a new bov

Say what?

the harder you are on it, the shorter amount of time your motor will last.
but that isn't saying you will kill your motor if you redline everyonce and a while.

i redlined my car and the intercooler piping flew off the car and scraped up my undercarriage. be careful when you redline.

You need better piping connections, try using tie bars on the connecting hoses

Well, redlining yor protege is silly, unless you have a worked motor. You lose power after 6K. But I rev my stock motor to 6k daily...and that stock motor is under 8psi of stress. Doesn't seem to mind.

i was thinking the hose endlinks were not hooked up correctly to the throttle body on the header side. and now my valve springs aren't mating to the pistons anymore. any ideas?

is there a careful way to redline? (uhm)
yes, there is, actually. if you let off your clutch slowly, the sportronic shifting will have time to ease itself into the right gears even at redline. it's very important.
