would like to get some more low end torque outta my 04 mazda 6s wagon 3.0. any suggestions,anyone?(drive2)

Adjustable cams would if you tune it more for torque. And an exhaust cam. But there are no real bolt on's for torque. You can also go turbo though. That will help. :)

Check your grounding in the car. If you need to ground it better that will improve throttle response and rob less power from the car. But there is no easy choice on how to get more torque short of boost or cams. But if you free up the exhuast it will give you the most torque your motor can make stock.

Just free up the exhaust and get Aftermarket Pulleys you will notice a Difference.

The Cams and Grounding kit would be waste of money for what you are looking for...
Turbo sound Kool but you would be spending $3000 and up.

Good Luck...

Good advice.

Freeing up the exhaust won't really improve you lowend. They are made to improve the highend by being able to release those exhaust gasses under pressure. Your torque will go up a little but still feel insufficient.

Unfortunately, none of those parts are currently available for the AJ engine. :( Theoretically, one can take 3.0L Duratec cams into the AJ engine, but no one has tried it.

The stock exhaust from the cat back for the V6 has very little restrictions. All the restrictions are at the 3 or 4 pre-cats up front. Hence, an aftermarket exhaust for the V6 is an acoustical mod, not a power/torque mod. Here's a pic of the Mazdaspeed version, but the piping is the same:

I'd caution against changing the pulley for the AJ engine. There's something to be said when the 2.5L Duratec guys want the AJ's DMD. Furthermore, they net more hp with it to boot!

nitrous...pretty much will make power at any power band you want.

Every juiced AJ engine thus far has grenaded.

I would say that the best power mod that I did was the CP-E MAFci kit. You might want to look into that.

So you think new grounding would help with the throttle response? I really have to step on the pedal to get it to take off, I thought about cleaning the maf censor with some electric parts cleaner spray. It really seems like I should be getting a better take off than I am.--thanks

CPE's MAF-ci and CPE Headers, that has improved my wagon a great deal and my wife's 5-door, sans the headers. If you are interested, PM me and I can provide you additional information and get you a good deal on either product.

By the way, if you are interested I will be in Sebring in March for the races next year with my wagon, a few 6 owners from the SE part of the country are having a meet. We will be supporting the Mazda teams, Tri-Point & Tindol Motorsports. Let me know if you want to attend.
