tx speed demon got me hooked on a guy named dj clie, very good house, nice beats too.

It's DJ Cl - he's a local guy in Saf Francisco now, prior to that LA, prior to that Dallas. He does mix some really nice jazzy deep house. Check out his CDs "32", "Minimal", "What's in it 4 U" and "Get Down". I think he's on Soundproof records.

Another great house dj is Jay J. He put out an album called "Reflections" that is excellent deep house. He also does a lot of remixes with guys like Chris Lum. You can hear some of their mixes on "Afterhours Sessions: Vol 4"

Of course there's the always consistent Derrick Carter. "Squardancing in a Round House' was a good album he put out a few years back. Saw him at a club too, very energetic vibe.

Also a big fan of Eric Morillo. Check out the "House Nation America" series. I think the first one (a 2 disc set) was mixed by Little Louie Vega and Eric Morillo. It's a little bit more vocal and dancy than the others though, but still good.

Judge Jules was also pretty good a few years ago. His "Journeys By DJ Vol 2" cd was good, but again more of the dancy club house sound.

Felix Da Housecat's "Kittenz and thee Glitz" should be in every house fan's collection. Interesting tech house sound.

You deep house lovers should look for anything by Francisco Diaz and the Terry's Cafe mixes.

hey if any of you are interested in some beautiful mixes from san francisco in the early 90's (91-95 really), let me know. most of them were taped live at parties here- intense memories for me:) i converted them from analog tape->mp3 so most of them are a little scratchy at times but still very listenable. djs:
garth, jeno, buna, 'evil' eddie richards, etc etc...don't know if any of you remember what sf house music was in those days but, having been a part of it, i can tell you it was pure magic. i was at the parties most of these tapes were dropped at- a couple of them were full moon outdoors on the beach. intense. anyway, if you're down with acid house you'll probably love these. let me know and i'll try to find a host for the files (or if you have one PM me)..

What about Dj Dan? Gotta give him credit for putting San Fran on the house map.

Derrick Carter rocks. I had this one mix tape, "live from Industry" in Toronto. Opened with "We Had a Thing" by Abstract Truth. Still trying to find that track....

Velocifero, there's an extended mix of "1000 Years" that you'd probably like more. Short radio mixes concentrate on vocals.

I'm going to spend the next hour downloading some of the Djs you guys have mentioned. Although big international djs can totally rock(ie, Carl Cox, best dj of all time), the smaller local djs are more consistant and tend to play better underground stuff, since they're not pushing any given label or artist.

I'm glad I was able to find the house crowd after all. And there weren't any haters chiming in saying crap like, "house music is gay." LOL

Oh btw, I'm looking for some good tribal house. Anybody got anything I can download, or know where I can find some. It's so underground it's not even funny. People throw tribal in with any other kind of house, and it always works.

I sense a good 'electronic' community forming here......I'm listening to Enry's "Touched by the Sun" mix now. I'm lovin it. Groovy deep house, with some jazzy influence. My trained ear senses a wee tad beat mismatching, but the average listener won't even hear it. I really like the K&M track, "Pink is the Color." Overall, it has a bit of Roger Sanchez flavour to it....and that's a good thing. (wiggle)

house yer body all night long

I to have been listening to electronic music since about 97 and it changed my life, as far as house goes Deep Dish is one of my favorites, donald glaude, oh and who can forget Ben Watts from lazy dog, i have been a part of throwing many small parties to throwing massives like new years 2000 with an attendance of over 4000 and another 2000 wanting to get in. Wow were those good times. I and a few friends are heading to Seattle next weekend to rekindle our youth and see Paul Van Dyk on friday, never dissapointed with that german trance god..

what exactly is house?

I'm assuming you want to know what makes house different from trance or jungle or such?

House comes in many forms, and it's hard to define or describe in a finite manner. There's disco house, which is house that sounds like disco obviously. People think disco is dead, but it's alive and well. Download, "Stupidisco" by Junior Jack or Pete Heller's "Big Love." There's Funky house, which obviously has a funk influence. Try to find "Mothership Reconnection(Daft Punk mix)" by Scott Grooves, or "Shake it for Me" by the Hydraulic Dogs. There's deep house, which is a deep, soulfull sound, with rolling baselines. Find Silicone Soul, "The Answer" and The Crumpster, "Stomp Your Feet." Tribal house has lots of percussion and drums. Download, "Primitive" by Turn Table Terror and Lee Cabrera, "Shake It"(find a mix without the vocals). There's progressive house, which is hard to describe. At a bit of trance-ish flavour and a touch of techno. "Spaced Invader" by my fellow Canadian, Hatiras is one of the best house songs of all time. Absolutely genius. Also, try a classic Progressive track, "Disco Babes from Outerspace" by Babe Instinct. There's both UK Hardhouse and Chicago Hardhouse. For UK hardhouse, download anything by Lisa Lashes or Anne Savage. For Chicago Hardhouse, look for stuff anything by Angel Alanis("Funk master", "Chi's Revenge" or "Subsequential Life") or Bad Boy Bill mixes.

Let me know if I forgot any type of house music. I'll post up tomorrow with my list of MUST HAVE house tracks and mixes. Just for the record, all types of 'electronic' musics are decended from house music. House begot acid, which begot techno, which begot trance and jungle etc.

Ever hear of the Lifeforce parties in Toronto? Connected 99 had Carl Cox, Dj Sneak, Armand van Heldon, dj Dan and Junior Sanchez all playing. It was at the Automotive Centre at the Canadian National Exibitions(ie CNE). There were 15,000 people. Best party ever.......

I just remember that I forgot about Garage and Tech-house. Garage is light, sometimes cheesy, with lots of vocals. Picture Deep house without the deep. "Point of View" by DB Boulevard, or "Caracao Tambor" by Ian Pooley. Tech-house is like a cross between house and techno. Not as fast as techno, but with a lot electronic influence. Grant Phabao's "Tub" and Mojolators, "To the Music"(I have this song on vinyl and ripped it onto my computer, but it'll be hard to find on the internet).

There's also a style of house that lasted about 2 or 3 years back in the mid-late 90s called speed garage. House mixed with jungle/DnB. Slow like house, but with jungle percussion and basslines. Download "Spin Spin Sugar(Armand's mix)" by the Sneaker Pimps, and "Something Going On(Loop da Loop mix)", Todd Terry.

I have been spinning since 98 and spin mostly trance/hard trance and hard house/prog house. Does anyone remember UC music? It was a hard house record lable out of Chicago.. Hot s***.
