I read that the more powerful engine was reserved for Lincoln cars to differentiate them from the similar fords and mazdas. Sales have not been good for lincoln, so this was how they were going to address that.

If this is really the case, then Madza will not get the more powerful engine. If so, then I'll probably bite. The MDX is powerful, but too small and the front too weird.

Is it in any cars other than Lincolns?

Well, let's reset this then for everyone. Having read the thread initially:

Does anyone know if there are NEW color combinations on the 08?

It's pretty limiting to only offer black and tan. For example, my wife likes the liquid platinum metallic but doesn't like the tan interior (or black). I'm hoping that they offer a gray interior with that color.

Well that sux... I just bought a 2007 GT AWD CX-9 and now it's re-sale value is in the crapper...

I guess I should have visited the site a few days earlier...

Resale value on any new car is in the crapper...in fact, buying a car is almost always a loss. You'll never make back what you paid unless you are investing $300K on a vintage Ferrari and don't plan to ever drive it.

Well, I have traded cars many times in my life. I know that as soon as you drive the vehicle off the lot you lose about 5K. However, anytime there is a major engine upgrade in less than a year it will really hurt the value of the vehicles with the lesser engines. They will always be a much less desirable model on the used market. I have to trade vehicles every four years to stay on my companies auto plan. The introduction of the more powerful engine in late 2007 will probably drop the resale value of the 2007 models by an additional 5K when it come time to trade.

I HIGHLY recommed that any one thinking about buying a CX-9 wait for the 2008 unless you can get an extra $5K or so off the 2007. Otherwise you will loose a lot of value ( and fun ) like I did...

I kind of makes me sick, but that is life... I just whish I could have enjoyed the vehicle for a few days before I got the bad news. It was a hard hit to get the bad news the day after I bought it...

I don't blame you one bit for feeling this way. Enjoy the CX-9, however. It's the best CUV for the money!

I really debate the drop of an additional $5k on a different motor. The motor should not be much different in terms of performance. We are talking a 3.7 over a 3.5. I am sure with an intake mod on a 3.5 it will churn similar numbers to a 3.7 motor.

I have bought and sold well over 30 plus cars over the past 20 years and recently got caught up into the same debate with a Corvette Z06. I had an 01 that had 385hp and the new 02 pumped out 405hp. I felt the 01 would drop major in value with the added hp, plus the upcoming C6 base vette putting out higher numbers than that. In the end I tried to anticipate the market and sold the car for about the same I could have sold it for 2 years later. I sold early only hoping to prevent a bigger loss down the line.

Be thankful you did't buy the Hyundai and are concerned about resale. The Koreans have come a long way in terms of reputation, but the simple fact remains they hold very little resale.

Pointless debate, no way in June 2010 a 2007 CX9 will be worth $5000 less than a 2008, different engine or not.

Mazda3, I do not know where you contact at Mazda Canada has taken this information from about the 300hp... but I doubt that he is really well connected about what his going on. From my own (good) contact, I can tell you that this is not true.

The 300 HP is an estimate. The final production HP/TQ figures haven't been released yet. The point is that there is a 3.7L engine with more power and torque for 2008.

Your estimate is totally off. Is your guy involved in product? My own contact at Mazda Canada gave me the exact measure, but he will chop my head if I say anything at the moment. You are really setting up expectations with your 300HP.

I would tend to agree. While it is purely math, a 3.7L engine is only 5.8% bigger than a 3.5L engine. 5.8% increase in HP over 263 is only 278. Now of course it is possible they made other superior changes and/or the horsepower gain isn't linear with the engine size increase, even so. It would take a 14% increase in power to bring it up to 300hp.

I have ordered the 3 GT but today the dealer called me telling they don't have the color that I want. They told me mazda stopped making 2007 model already. I have to order 2008 model which will come at mid August. They didn't mention any thing new on the 2008 model. I don't know what to do cuz I don't want to wait for two months. If the engine upgrades to 2.5, it is a good thing. But i dont know how it is gonna affect the price. Plus the equipment of the car...... Any suggestions? I am starting to consider the rabbit....though it is less fun......
