Horsepower/Torque Ratings

I'm looking at the 2006 Mazda 3 brochure and it states this under horsepower ratings .....Mazda 3i 2.0 150hp -135lb.ft. *
Mazda 3s 2.3 160hp -150lb.ft *

*3i 2.0 145hp -132lb.ft
3s 2.3 153hp -149lb.ft in California, Maryland, Maine, New York &
Vermont

Is this all just emissions related.?...5-7hp and but only 1lb. of torque seems a little strange.

yes and its retarded... thats my sentiments anyways (oh yeah i am a bit bitter i lost 7 hp and 1 ft lb to the damn emisions!!!)

Is it just the Mazda3 ? The reason i ask is because the 2006 MX-5 Miata brochure doesn't list this discrepancy between emission ratings.

Emmisions,

If you don't like it buy out of state.

good point... though then i would have had to pay the sales tax when i registered it instead of having it part of the sale... 18,570x.055=1021$$ with that 1g i would have had to spend plus registration which was 480 thats 1500$$$ could deffinatly gain the 7hp back with 1500 in mods...

Those are Pzev versions there has been a Mazda3 version of it since it came out. That is a first that I have seen them in the 2.3L
When I bought mine they had the PZEV version of the 2.0L

The major difference is the exhaust. bBut if it is like the Focus there maybe intake and header differences as well.

or you could have the $1500 factored into your payments and pay interest on it for the next 5 years (yupnope)

$1500 @ 5% interest for 5 years = $1875 (poke)

Just so you know, you can't just multiply 1500x.05x5. You need a formula for compounded interest which you can find in a calculus book. It actually comes out to be $1914. Just like this:

Formula:

P is the principal (the initial amount you borrow or deposit)

r is the annual rate of interest (percentage)

n is the number of years the amount is deposited or borrowed for.

A is the amount of money accumulated after n years, including interest.

When the interest is compounded once a year:

A = P(1 + r)n

However, if you borrow for 5 years the formula will look like:
A = P(1 + r)5

just ran mine on a dyno yesterday

got a whole 140hp** after adding an AEM intake (which added 4hp and 4lb/ft)

of course, it's not totally broken in yet (roughly 1700 miles), and i have an automatic
not sure on tourque #'s, the sheet's in the glovebox right now

just add the msp turbo kit when it's made available, should get up to 165 easily

can't wait for "them" to come out with a engine management for the 3

right now, a/f ratio drops at 4250rpm - basically dumping fuel out the tailpipe if rpm goes over that

** after adding 17% (it was 17 right?) for adjustements, hell let's just say 135hp

well no kidding sherlock. i was merely trying to get the point across that he will end up wasting money as opposed to trying to confuse anyone with mathematical equations.

there is always a smartass waiting to add their .02......

you mean 140 at the flywheel, right

140 in an automatic... with just a cai... dunno bout that... but will wait for the dyno post before i say more... if its right you got a nice one there man..

Yes it could, It could mean Mazda uses the old system to overrate their hp and those states require use of the new system of rating hp, not due to emissions. The only Japanese car company thats been providing accurate readings has been Nissan.

Actually no it doesn't. The lower HP ratings are a result of the PZEV. Alittle research on your part will show that you are wrong.

140whp on a auto with just a cai is kinda hard to believe without a dyno sheet. Post it up.

yeah, that's what i thought you meant but wasn't sure. it looks like you don't need to add anything to the numbers. we were all doing some calculations and it looks like the numbers that we got is what the cars should be putting out.

If he dyno'd 116 in a 3, hes got bigger problems.

well not really. the better wording would be mazda got bigger problems. the driveline loss is unbelievable and when its automatic its double unbelivable. my auto dynoed at 90hp at wheels, modded auto did 97 and stock mp3 had 110
