Given the target US market for this, we'd probably see an anemic Civic motor if it ever puddle-jumped. Although, the Honda sticks are real smooth. . .and a chip, intake, etc. could sweeten the deal.
Of course a little competition could improve the breed. How about this for a Car and Driver Shootout: "Mazdaspeed5 Vs. Honda Stream Type-S"

Funny how there are plenty of vehicles that may have met our needs/desires, but when you eliminate those vehicles that hold less than 5 passengers, the Rondo and the 5 are the two left standing.

BTW, I love the Elantra Touring, but it's too new to meet my needs (2yrs old, less than 20k, around 1/2 price)
Elantra is too small for my tastes.
