The new Honda NSX is dead as a supercar but alive as a V8 RWD Super GT racer.

The Honda NSX may have been killed off, but word is that its going to be reborn as a racing car.

The replacement for the legendary Japanese supercar was axed well into its development phase, as Hondas focus shifted from full-strength drivers cars to hybrids and green technology.

While its newest hybrid the CR-Z sports coupe looks set to crank the fun up somewhat, Hondas halo car will be sorely missed, especially with the 5-litre V10 engine it was due to sport.

Instead, though, it looks like itll see the light of day as a racing car in Japans Super GT series. Its involved the sidestepping of the homologation rules, using a rule that allows production-ready cars that arent in production to enter. Rather than a ten-cylinder unit, reports suggest the racing NSX will use a 3.4-litre V8 engine. Itll be mated to a rear-wheel-drive layout.

Just as importantly, it looks bloody tremendous. The picture above comes courtesy of jonsibal.com, a car illustration website, but whets our appetite for what the real thing will look like quite nicely. Expect Honda to reveal its V8 NSX racer next month.

OMG! That is the most sexiful thing I've ever seen. (omg)

NSX no more: Honda HSV-10 GT ready to race in SuperGT

The Honda NSX might be gone, but it's set to live on as the HSV-10 GT in Japan's SuperGT championship.

Although we don't have an official release or specs yet, we do have the image above and some preliminary details on the HSV-10 GT or Velocity Sports Honda. Built to the 2010 GT500 regulations, the new front/mid-engine racer from Honda is packing a 500+ hp, 3.4-liter V8 and sending power through the same Ricardo sequential manual gearbox fitted to the 2010 SuperGT cars from Nissan and Toyota. Underneath all that glorious carbon fiber is the same chassis Honda's been working on (originally as an NSX replacement) for the last two years. The SuperGT season opener is scheduled for March 20 and 21 of 2010, but we expect more details and a host of high-res images to hit soon. Stay tuned...
