Homemade intake

I've had my P5 for two months already, and I've finally made my first modification. I removed most of the extra factory intake tubing, leaving only the 12" section that connects to the throttle body. A 3" K&N fits right onto the remaining plastic, so for $25, I have what is essentially the same thing as the AEM short ram air intake!

Sound is definitely improved, and while I'm positive there are some decent hp advantages, I'm not one to spread around numbers I can't prove with a dyno. For $25 and about 10 minutes, it's pretty hard to beat!

Sounds like some smart wrench work on your part. :D Glad to hear people are exparementing with the car. Do you have the part number for anyone who might want to do this same thing? Also pics would help alot!

I'll work on some pictures. As for the part #, I'm not sure you'd need one. Any cone-type intake filter with a 3" fitting would work just fine. There is a rubber gasket connecting the two pieces of plastic tubing from the factory, and you'll need to leave that on for a snug fit.

personally homemade is doing good for me i just took a 3" pipe bent it at a 90 degree angle from throtle body and connected the mas...and then ran a $50 3" civic warm air pipe down to make it into a cai..... just like the pics of the aem ones you all spent a lot of money on........and i have great pic up and go especially when i am below 1/4 of a tank..will have pics of my engine soon......

Just curious what did you do with the temp gauge and the Mass air flow sensor as they are important for your fuel mixture etc

DUDE ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS WHEN YOU GET THE PIPE LINED TO WHERE YOU WANT IT IN THE PIPE YOU BORE OUT A HOLE AND PUT IN THE LITTLE RUBBER GROMIT THAT COMES IN THE STOCK INTAKE MANIFOLD........ AND CONNECT THE GAUGES.......ALSO.......FOR THE AIR HOSE LINE THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO FIGURE OUT EACH INTAKE IS DIFFERENT I USED A CIVIC WARM AIR EXTENSION PIPE FOR MINE AND IT COMES WITH THE PLUGS TO CONNECT TO THE ENGINE AND EVERYTHING SO THERE YOU GO JC4EVER........ :D

your welcome and thanx for the complement now i know i really know a thing or 2 about a thing or 2....hahaha :D
