Homelink setup in Canada

Mazda CX-5 GS
Hi again happy owners.

In my GS, I made the dealer install a homelink auto-dimming mirror. Being in Canada, I have to deal with the rolling code security. I've read somewhere that Mazda refused to update their Homelink software until 2014; update being necessary for Homelink to see those signals. Well I bought mine in 2014 and it's doesn't looks like the signal is accepted. The red light flashes slowly and it never accepts the code.

My questions:
1- Should I ask Mazda if they installed a 2014 updated version? If not I would make them change it.
2- Should I just buy the repeater for my garage door opener to avoid more delays or problems? (Liftmaster, bought in September 2013)

3- Is this false advertisement? I mean, let's face it. The damn things costs more than my cell phone + cover + wireless charger (Nexus 5) and one of the two major features isn't working in Canada for nobody unless we buy additional repeaters (~$35).

Mine works fine, but NOT when I followed the homelink instructions...

i just had to push the learn button on my garage door opener(its usually a red square button in the rear light panel on the actual motor that opens the door), then within 30 seconds, push and hold a button of choice on the mirror until it changes flashing pattern, then voila door programmed.

to open/close the garage door, the mirror button needs to be held for like 2-3 seconds (a quick push will not work).

the only thing I wish this mirror had, was led lights on these buttons, so I can see them at night

Just tried but didn't worked either. I will try to call them this week to get this working.

Thanks for the try!

Quick update everyone: It seems only 2 persons in the whole world knows how to deal with this issue inside Mazda. I am still waiting for "someone to callback" once they find somebody who did it. Seriously, what poor service from all Mazda I called. These guys can probably rebuild an engine, change the whole wiring and fix things I don't even know exists but can't even answer me on how to program a 3 button mirror ...

are your doing the 2 steps in the correct order? :

1- press the learn button on the garage door motor

2- go in the car within 30 seconds (should be close to the door) and press any button on the mirror and hold for about 5-7 seconds (the light blinking pattern will change)

Done... then press and hold the button again for about 2-3 seconds and the door should close.

I have the same car, and same brand of garage opener as you (mine is exactly like the one in the video).

If it doesn't work, something is wrong with either the door opener or the mirror. I've helped 3 people on my street program theirs on different vehicles... always the same 2 steps.

Hi,

I did the same thing but always get stuck on step 2 where the blinking pattern doesn't change. The only difference, besides the motor itself, is that I used the learn button on the remote opener (wall next to the door) instead of on the motor itself. Using this technique I was able to reprogram my remote that came with the motor but not the HomeLink.

I will try to do it with the learn button directly on the motor. I'll update after.

Any updates?

I do have some. Not good ones. The button on the opener does the same as the button on the "remote wired control" if I can say that. Thus it didn't worked either.

After some calls with my dealer, I have to call another dealer closer to my home and they will come see if they can fix it and/or replace the defect unit, if this is the case.

I'll post updates when I can.

I got mine to work. The first thing you need to do is to take your garage door opener and program the mirror to the remote garage door opener you currently use (I really can remember the instructions as I did it last year). That allows the mirror to send out the same patterns as your garage door opener. After you have the mirror programmed, you have to get the garage door opener to learn the rolling code from the mirror as described above. Most people forget about the garage door opener and mirror programming. The mirror as delivered from Mazda is "dumb".

I think I got mine to work. At least the unit accepted the code, I just need to get home and test it. And it was actually pretty derp of mine.

I went to a dealer and a tech guy tested the unit with me. He was able to program easily both of the dealer's doors. After the tests, I tried again with the remote that is in my car. Hold button 1, hold remote for ~5 sec, release remote and try remote again for ~2 sec. Mirror accepted the code and I was jumping on my seat(nana).

I think it is either 3 things that happened:
  1. The test with another garage opener "unlocked" or "unfroze" something
  2. When the instructions says "1-3 inches", read "1-3 foots" (figure of speech). I held the remote near the shifter instead of near the mirror.
  3. I was really unlucky in my previous tries

Well, failed. I think I picked up a signal from the dealer when I tried again. Back home, it never worked. I called the guy who sold us the lifttmaster unit and he will come home to make it work. He says the model I have normally works with CX-5. I just have to be patient until Saturday (dammit).

Finally got it to work. How? By ordering, for free (except $7 shipping), a chamberlain repeater. Normally, it is supposed to work without it but in my case, they sent me the unit. I had to call chamberlain/liftmaster.

What I think: Homelink's version on the mirror is outdated.
