hmmm :( new tranny???

sooo last night i was driving my msp (like a total white man) doing maybe 60k in a straight line and i hear this rubbing, grinding noise (kind of like my tire was rubbing on fender really bad or something) after my tires locked up and and my clutch started to slip when i tried going again i realised that it was not my tires rubbing at all... i thought it might be my clutch going because i had heard a noise around my engine a few weeks back and a mechanic had told me it was my clutch springs going. along with that i had need experiencing some chatter in the front end on take offs after a little bit of hard accelleration and heat... soooo after getting my car towed to another mechanic he drained my oil and told me it was very metallic with metal shavings and that he was pretty sure i f-ed my tranny..... anyone have any idea what i could have fricked up and what a new used tranny would cost aaaaand if i can use a tranny from a reg plain jane 2.0 liter protege engine... help!
 
oh and hard to get into any gear other then first and second. stalls on me when i put into n and let the clutch out..
 
Sounds like you need to take the tranny out and see what is going on exactly. Probably the diff though
 
so what makes a diff just go? it only had 100,000 km on it. and also what are the benifits to a welded LSD? is this something i should be looking into doing while its apart? guess ill be finding out today what the deal is with the tranny/diff
 
theres another thread on tranny problems that another kid and i have both been have grinding and humming noise in gear. i first thought it must be the clutch since ive got 106,000 mils on it with factory setup. but after seeing everyones replies im feeling that its probly the diff... please let us know what they find on your tranny it will be very helpfull with our problems.
also u talked about chattering problems? My clutch has never really slipped it just has always chattered in those crappy start outs or downshifts. its been doing that since about 30k miles ago so idk if thats just how that factory upgraded clutch slips or what?

finding out tonight now severe everything is. so i will keep you posted.... says there fluid leaking from one of the main seals and said that is never a good thing... im scared to see the outcoming bill to this fix :(
 
so this just in......... apparently the mechanic i had first look at my car when it had the noise was a bit of an idiot.. said that the ticking noise coming from my engine bay was my clutch spring. turns of that my 5th gear bearing was getting ready to go, and the other night she really went..... i guess it ground up so bad that it put a hole in my tranny case and ground it self up everywhere inside.... i need a new case new bearings and gears and maybe a few other things... the clutch looks bran new he said and the diff look absolutly fine.......... frick.... not sure if i should just fix everthing maybe but the gtx 3rd and 5th in ( anyone done this and how do you like it?) not sure if i should upgrade my clutch and flywheel or get a better lsd or just fix it stock because it will probably be a big bill at the end of that alone.... **** black knight auto in kelowna...
 
can i use the case and some of the gears, and case, and what not from say a P5 or just a plane jane protege? swap my lsd and clutch and any of the goods that may still exist from my msp
