"appearance" purposes can hurt your car.. always be thinking performance gains and healthy cycling for your engine.. really i think the BOV should be as close to the TB as possible.. therefor, whenever your TB slams shut and the residual pressurized air is still in the piping, the BOV releases the air IN THE SAME DIRECTION, always moving forward, always trying to move TOWARD the engine.. the further away from the TB the more air is trying to escape in different directions causing uneven currents and air patterns you dont want
 
There is no performance gain either way, having it on the hot side just vents hot air, and the cold side just vents already cooled air.
Both work the same, both make the same amount of noise.
