hks muffler

LazerblueP5 - And what is wrong with a rear section exactly? Do you even know how big the stock piping is by the way?

tell us, because i have no clue. What is the Size exhaust pipe size?

The inside diameter of the stock piping is 2"... The inside of the HKS is 2". Is the 1/4" added by a full catback going to make that much of a difference? Not justified for the added expense.

MAzda of Wooster has the MAzdaSpeed Axle back for 193. and some change. Seems to me that the performance gains of eitehr will be only marginal. At least with MazdaSpeed, I don't have to worry about warranty arguments down the road.

My dealer also quoted me 1500 total installed for the total suspension upgrade (struts, springs, and sway bars). Comes out to about 1 inch drop and a really tight steering auto.

Cat-back systems only add roughly 7hp, so just a muffler replacement might....MIGHT yeild oh....2 hp or so. Mainly it's for looks and sound. Performance gains are negligable. Trust me I used to have an HKS SuperDragger exhaust for my previous car (rear section only). Not any performance gain that I could tell, although maybe the exhaust affects people psychologically, they hear the growl of the exhaust at full throttle and THINK they are moving faster. lol

Your talking $235 for a Muffler. Not an exhaust SYSTEM, a muffler. Besides full cat-back systems are in the same range price-wise...unless of course your comparing it to Greddy's...or in this case HKS. Your paying for the name- plain n' simple. :)

Where? i haven't seen anthing cheaper than $380 for a full cat-back for our cars, and that's for the Borsal on sale in the group buy page.

I'll have it friday, either way, looking forward to replacing the racing beat

damn straight! but with those names comes quality. to really get any hp gains from bolt-ons you gotta get the whole schabang cat-back,intake and headers. alone none will yeild much in hp gains. i get it for the looks and sound (and name :D).

You're quite an optimist! Thinking a simple catback systems adds 7hp on a NA, small displacement motor is just wrong! Lets take a look at different systems and we will see the truth!

1996 Nissan 240SX SE, 5Zigen Fireball catback - 3.6HP gain.
2002 Acura RSX Type-S, DC sports TCS catback - 5.9HP gain.(notice the high gain due to car having I-VTEC)
2001 Toyota MR2, TRD catback - 3.3HP gain
1995 Acura Integra GSR, Skunk2 catback - 8.7HP gain (again, the car has VTEC)
2002 Mitsubishi Lancer, Buschur's Catback - 2.1HP gain
1999 Eclipse GS-T, Thermal Exhaust catback - 4.5HP gain (and thats FI!)
1993 Mazda RX-7, A'PEXI N1 catback - 4.1HP gain(again, that's FI).

Well, with having listed those, we seen that the only gains close to your 7HP claim are the cars sporting VTEC(or I-VTEC). However, VTEC is a form of forced induction and it's not really comparable to our cars. From this, I see our cars gaining at most 3-4HP with a catback and around 2-3HP with a axle-back.

As for just paying for the name, you're wrong again. Associated with HKS and Greddy is quality. First off, you get better materials over-all. Secondly, you get superior computer aided tig-welding around the joints(something you don't see in american made exhausts, the joints are usually the first ones to rust). And lastly, you get a great sounding/performing product.

But, don't let me decided on how you want to spend your money. I'm just questioning your logic behind your decision.
