HKPRO5's Supercharger Build Thread

I ended up going home after lunch. Im uploading my track cam right now.

The track cam didnt work as well as I thought it would.....

Anyways I still need to practice driving with the SC on. lol It crazy hahaha

Oh....I gotcha.
I like Turbo too....But I also like Massive Gobs of torque right off the line when you MAT it.

I am sure HKPro knows what I am talking about....and the whine is cool to listen to to.

Hell yea. lol BTW what kinda supercharger is that? (model)

Congrats on getting the SC installed! It sounds exactly as I remember it (headbang) . Yeah launching does need a little getting used to, but once I got the hang of it it would rocket from a standstill ("rocket" for a protege at least). I never got a chance to auto-x with it on, but imagine it must be nice to have the instant torque in the tight corners. I'm glad this setup is being put to good use. Can't wait for more videos!

One more thing, whats with the wavy background when you are lined up at the start? lol

dang i missed it=( got there at the last heat. from the vid clip s**** fast for sure.
ah will do a Team Pro5 meet soon.

s*** im jelous!! lol im a little confused tho on this supercharge kit. doesnt the supercharger normally take place of the intake manifold???

fffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu i may be taking a vacation to hawaii soon to visit my buddy garrett there. USMC buddy stationed there!
would love to meet all of you guys!

depends on the kit, this one is driven by a belt that compresses the air and then the pipes take it to the intake mani, some place the supercharger directly on the intake mani eliminating the pipes completely

then it makes it easier to twin charge as the turbo can be fend into tha mani via piping... while the supercharger wont have any piping making less fabbin up to do.. :)

I applaud HKPRO5 thirst to do something different, but I have a feeling it will stay his pet project and not take off because of AC being through out. What is up with the AutoX video, the audio is not clean at all and sounds horrible.

I think there is a real market for a intake manifold/supercharger kit that maintains the AC, but keeps the kit cheap and simple. I think if you modified the intake so maybe the supercharger mounts under it or on the end of the intake manifold. I would mention that yes the stock intake makes a good bit of power for the NA FS-DE, but it has been shown that the 626 intake is perfect for a turbo because it is less restrictive and do not forget it does not have VTCS nor VICS. I think if you used a 626 intake manifold as a base and modified it with a roots charger for a start. To make a good product you need to get a custom manifold made or get a mold made. As for cooling, I have seen a heat exchanger in between a supercharger and the manifold on a Hyundai Tiburon GT that uses water, a electric pump and radiator up front. But that could be extra to contain cost and power (stock wussy motor rods are weak). So here is what i see as a rough price wise:

$344 for 626 intake
$400-900 for supercharger
$300 for special bracket and pulley.

$1044-$1544 total for seller cost, but not what the kit would need to be sold at to get work done. I figure if you spread the labor/R&D cost over a few kits you get the cost under $1,500-$2,000 for kit msrp.

I figure a header will definitely be a good idea, but not necessary. You could get a bung weld in for a wide band tuning, but why waste the money and get a header instead? I am currently working on what is needed to easily use the mx-6 2.0 4-2-1 header. I figure I just need a mx-6 midpipe/high flow cat (measured the header placement and it's 17" to the exhaust and the high flow cat with flanges will fit).
I would also recommend some type of tuning, but I would leave that to the individual to figure out and pay for. I see $400-$679 more and I would probably go with Split Second Fuel and Timing package for $679. So total cost to the end user would be around $2179-$2679 at most. I think most protege people would like this option because of the following:

1.) cheaper cost than turbo kit
2.) no shop needed to install
3.) safer for engine since engine oil and cooling does not get over worked by turbo cooling (not perfect because of rods).
4.) last longer before needing rebuilt
5.) maintains oem cats for legality.

What do you think Ken (protegegarage)?

1.) not really that much cheaper
2.) depends on mechanical skills
3.) debatable
4.) debatable
5.) depends on local laws

super charger is great stuff... but will never out perform a turbo...
btw cres.. when you gonna take me for a ride in your new sc car :)

When are you off? lol I work night shift now. I still have to do some tuning with the car. Maybe you can help.

heres a short vid

hehe i don't know how to tune... i running the modified super stock map...
to tune i think you need some sort of datalogging and a nice road to do multiple runs... that way we can see at what RPM we need to add or take fuel

i'm on orders this week but we usually finish around 5ish... hehe... roll up the windows next time when you making video or try taping a piece of earphone foam over the mic... might help with the wind... when we go for a cruise i can try and mount my DSLR to shoot some HD video

i was also looking at some camera mounts... this one looks pretty good

to tune all you need is a cord to hook up to the SSAFC and a laptop
then just record, floor it, look at results, add/take away fuel where needed, and repeat until everything is smooth
