Higher octane on higher boost !?

After searching the forum, I noticed people saying that you need to use higher octane fuel when you up the boost of the MSP !!! The recommended fuel is 91 and some says that you need 93 when you up the boost to 9-10 PSI !!!

My question is:
Why would you need higher octane to boost around 9-10 PSI when DODGE recommends 91 for his SRT-4, which is boosting much higher than our Speed (uhm) !?

Thanks

Yup, totally different car. Our car requires 91 for 7psi. If I was running 10psi, I'd be damn sure I'm running at least 93.

The engine in the SRT-4 is the same in the EVO.....the thing about higher octane i think it might prevent detonation i'm not sure my self and plus don't forget to get colder plugs

Not sure

things that effect octane:

1. compression
2. boost if you have it
3. ignition timing
4. general design of the engine

The SRT-4 uses the 2.4L Neon engine.

yea, i think the only similarity is they are both internal combustion engines, whoa, that means

p5 engine = evo engine = ferrari engine (boom04)

yep.....its the same engine used in the evo....dodge and Mitsu share a lot of parts the only difference is that the srt-4 is FWD and has a couple diff parts.

the new eclipses have dodge straus engines in them....not entirely sure on the eclipse thing though, but diffently know about the srt-4 and evo

sorry about that if i'm wrong i could be i'll try to back it up some how, even though u guys know it, anyways sorry for startin thread jacking.

back on topic unless its been resloved
(high octane)

So youre saying if I up the boost around 8-9 I should use 93 and colder plug !?
Are the colder plug essential or the stock one can handle a little more boost with 93 !?

heres the thing about spark plugs....i got it from the modders thread

Stock MSP spark plugs are platinum NGK PZFR6F's. Colder, copper spark plugs would be a wise investment if you're upping the boost in your MSP. Detonation (Pre-ignition, where the air/fuel mix in the cylinder burns before being lit by the spark plug) WILL cause damage to the motor. Why copper? Platinum plugs have a sharp tip and don't conduct enough heat away to prevent detonation at boost levels higher than stock. A copper spark plug has a wider tip that conducts heat much better, and may prevent you from messing up your motor. The factory spark plug gap is 0.028" - 0.032".

THE SRT-4 DOES USE A Mitsubishi TD04-16G turbocharger octane number like 93 or 91 is how much the fuel can be compressed before it ignites, the compression ratio in the srt-4 engine is 8.1:1 and the turbo are completly diffrent than our MSP's. Havign a larger intercooler also does play a part in all of this.

At 8-9psi, I'd say the plugs aren't really required...but it's an extra safeguard that happens to be very cheap.

If you go to the dealer with colder plug can they guess you're running higher boost even if you take your MBC off !!!? I just dont wanna change my plugs every time I have to go see my dealer(beer)!!!

The SRT-4 engine is made in mexico, it was originaly for the PT cruser

the EVO 4g63 is a Mitsu design that is made in japan

there is NOTHING similar about the two
