High Pitched Noise

I noticed a new noise today from my MSP. There is a high pitched whistle that comes and goes. Gets louder and more high pitched when I accelerate. You guys have any idea what might be causing it. I take it to the dealers tomorrow for flashing, and should get them to look while it is in there.

Not the turbo, I have owned the car for over a year and it is the first time I have heard this noise. I know what the turbo sounds like.

I sure hope the turbo isn't going to blow, I'm not overly hard on my car so I wouldn't think that was the problem. We are coming off a really cold spell, we are above 0 now and everything is melting. Do you think all of the moisture has anything to do with it??

doubt moisture has anything to do with it. Unless you sucked up water but i doubt it. Do you notice a power loss when you hear the noise?

I hear the same whistleing noise every time I accelerate, but it's been louder ever since I put my CAI, downpipe and Forge BOV. It's right before it blows off. It's during the turbo spooling. The noise tends to be loudest during cold weather.

This is crazy, but I had a whistling noise a while ago. It was driving me crazy. You know what it ended up being? A tiny piece of twig/leaf/whatever lodged in the space between the mirror and body. Right where the rear view mirror is attached. No kidding.

about the whistling

bought my 03 orange msp 10 months used. It never had that typical whistling sound i head on VWs like 1.8t golf or even passats in traffic when accelerating. I had a VERY VERY VERY faint whistle mixed with zzzzzz. Weird way to describe i know. It was very low and SMOOTH sound that never changed, unlike some who hear it at high rpms when flooring the car. After some problems with other things (stumbling upon acceleration and cel indicating lean status of car) they ended up changing my turbo with a new one saying it was a faulty wastegate actuator. Now i have a new turbo and the sucker sounds sweet. It a nice whitling sound when i get on the gas in any gear in traffic as long rpms climp from about 2500 and above. I'm pretty sure this is what a turbo should sound like. It seems to be louder and comes up earlier in the cold climate (turbo spooling up earler?), but i think this is normal????, then again, our cars are not predictable, they are each posessed by a different ghost.............hope this helps.

i hear the same sound when my car has been running for a while. i listened real close and it sounds like its coming from the turbo. i only hear it when i drive hard and its really cold.
