high output alternator?

I'm thinking that someone must have some info about different alternators for the P5.

When I figure out what to do I will post to let you and everyone know what I did to fix it and what did not work. I will prob get some money for x-mas so I will see what I can come up with. ask 1st mp3 Nh in the audio board ...He has a 180 amp alternator but when i asked him where he got it he never told me. Supposdly u can also have your current alternator rewired to increase its amperage

nope, that won't work. the stock alternator is controlled by the ECU, and any modifications to it will either cause the car to not run, or the ECU to fry and most rewound alternators burn up in under a year, since inexperienced builders put in too high of amperage for the case. the protege's case is only rated up to like 110 or 120 amps. tomorrow i'm checking on my custom built one in a 250 amp case, but it'll only be a 200 amp alt

I don't recall that.

Its a factory built AC delco alternator. I got it and had it installed at Dracut Alternator in Dracut Mass.

oh i pmed u awhile back about it but u never answered... whatever. How did u get it to fit.. is the protege alt. an ac delco?
Wasnt AC delco a GM co.? If so i would never buy from them since GM parts(including delco) are garbage IMO. Are there any Bosch replacement alt. that would fit...

I had custom brackets welded to fit the alternator.
Yes AC delco is a GM supplying brand. Its also one of the better alternators.

I know a motorsports alternator will fit but thats by what my installer told me.

3rd gen pro's come with mitsubishi alts, as well as many other components. AC delco alts are very stong and reliable. from the mid 80's to 90's almost all the GM vehicles had the same alt casing, so it was easy to swap up to a higher amp alt
