Hidden gauges in the free DIN (help!)

I'd like to put 2 or 3 gauges in the empty din under the radio but i also want to keep the little door to hide the guages so that they are not visible from outside if i want to hide them.

so far ... all the brackets i've seen have the gauges sticking out. Anybody know of a bracket that would put the gauges inside the din ? Or know of someone that can custom make this ?

thanks =)

should be able to do this with a modification to the current brackets available. Something like flipping them around so the gauges are actually mount backwards on the plate, i think this would work cause the plate has 2 tabs on it that stick back into the hole to hold it in place in the normal position right? so if you put the gauges into that plate backwards and put the plate in backwards so it would sit about an inch or so inside the din.

now I dont know about attatching the flip cover back on with these plates. that may be what cause u to have to go full custom.

thanks for the info.

its a start. i think 03msp is the one who makes those brackets. ill try to contact him to see what he has to say

Just shorten the back of the zline stuff and file down the sides. Hope that makes sense. If not I'll draw a pic.

I have thought of doing that in my car but motorized so that I would have stealth gauges and head unit. I love electronic gadgets like that. It should be too hard to do, if your planning on putting the guages inside the stock pocket then its as simple as Jesse said but if your planing on getting rid of the pocket and keeping the door this will take a bit more time.

im not planning on getting rid of the pocket, unless i need to to make the gauges fit. i'm also keeping the door

i think its as easy as he says yea ... i'll let you guys know

I had my boost/vac gauge sitting on that door until my bezel was done, and I noticed that I couldn't get the gauge to go inside the cubby....it was too short. The only way I can see this being done is if you were to:
1) remove the pocket
2) cut the back off
3) mount gauges to the DIN plate
4) mount plate to cut-off pocket

Not sure...but take a look. My gauge is only a 2-1/16", and I couldn't even get the back in there, let alone the ring on the front. I think that if you could pull it off it would look great though....Good Luck!!

I looked at doing this too - in order for it to work the diagonal distance from the lower back part of the gauge to the upper front has to be less than teh clearance behind the gauges. Plus then you have to account for the wiring getting in the way. I'm not sure a "flip" concept would work. However, what might work is if you have a motorized door that flips up and slides back, kind of like a garage door, then the gauge cluster (on a triple DIN maybe?) slides forward...

tiwing: i dont want the gauges mounted on the door to flip the gauges ... i want them inside the pocket so that i can close the door in front of them. the gauges will not move once installed, i just want to open and close the door. basically ... its exactly as if i would leave everything the way it is stock and put the gauge inside the pocket just like to can put anything you want in there. i usually have a cd or two in there and close the door. thats what i want to do. i looked at it more closely today and realised i will have to take the pocket out because there is probably not enough space in there for a gauge.

What i need now is a gauge to test for fitment. 03MSP.com is asking a bit too much for a piece of plastic and some custom work so i will try to do it myself. Do any of you have a broken gauge or one that you could lend me for testing ? Or i would need dimensions ... the exact size of the ring (im assuming its 52mm) and the size of whatever part is behind the ring so that i know how big the hole has to be. how deep is the gauge, etc. i've never even seen what a gauge looks like (that were not installed). that would help me alot

Just letting you guys know that i'll have updates pretty soon. I should get the rest of my parts pretty soon and my gauges have arrived at the store. Soooo i'll either try to make something out of a piece of plastic or i'll ask a friend to make something in fiberglass or something. i'll keep you posted and post pics for those of you who asked for them

I can't believe I never saw this thread (or that 1sty didn't since he posts so damn much).

This has already been done & if you PM 1sty, I'm sure he can explain how he did it. Here is a pic of his gauge setup:
