2007 MAZDASPEED 3 GT
i have a 07 gt ms3 and i ordered a pair of hid bulbs 10k and i read the hand book that came in the car about how to chage out the bulbs and it said that i had to take it to a mazda dealer so i was wondering how can i change them out myself.

There is DIY lurking around here. Do a quick search. They are not hard to install at all, it will prob take you no more than an hour yourself

those things are gonna be PURPLE!

not really i did my searches and its going to be a dark sky blue and i did a youtube search as well any higher then thight im going to seea purple looking glow but its going to be a dark blue i as going to go with the 8k like a friends but i wanted more blue lol

be prepared to not have the ability to see as much at night with those bulbs, that's really going to be a cosmetic addition instead of functionality. and i believe that the reason behind the manual saying go to a dealer is the amount of power involved with the bulbs and mazda not wanting a lawsuit. i would say try it yourself anyway, just make sure no jokesters are in your car waiting to flip the switch on while you're holding the wiring. you could be extra safe by taking the ground off the battery, mazda says to do that anyway. they even say to remove power before changing out the cabin air filter

They're 35w just like the OEM halogens. They send you to the dealer because the "official" installation requires removing the bumper and lights from the car, and because they make more money on service that way.

So true! I recently installed HIDs on my 06 this past weekend. Most of the time is dealt with taking the bumper off and figuring out where to mount the ballast.

Dealerships are sharks....

35watts meaning they should output the same amount? if so, eurolites make halogens that are 55watts (same as most OEMs) and you realize how much light output they actually have right?

that's weird about the bumper having to come off, i don't remember making note of that when i looked at the procedure on ALLDATA. and the dealer makes the money on the service, but MAZDA made the manual, so it's not like MAZDA is making money off that

thanks for the help but im doing the work tommorow with a friend of mine and when it comes to working on cars there is a time to joke around not a time not to but i been doing my research and ya its more about the looks not the quality but im ok with it and also it would be easyer if you take off the bumper so you can take off the whole housing but i got time and i want to make sue im doing it right. does anyone else have any helpful tips.

i did not have to remove my bumper at all to install my hid kit. Plenty of places to zip tie the ballast out there. I have seen 10000K in person its pretty ******* blue! But the cops around here seem to hate anything blue like that. Its a really dark blue. I posted this in another thread also, but this is mine with 8000K, a nice blue but not too blue to not be able to see anything:

When I did my install I referred to the repair manual and it called for removal of the bumper to get to the headlight housing. I am not sure how much room the speed3s have behind the headlights, but my 06 did not have room to play with. I would suggest taking the bumper off if you have the time.

My point was you said Mazda requires you to go to the dealer because of the risk of shocking yourself when changing out HIDs. Both the OEM HIDs and OEM halogens are 35w, so there isn't any difference in risk in changing out one vs. the other as far as shocking goes. The reason the HIDs make more light is not that they use higher power lamps, but rather that they use a different technology which arcs electricity between electrodes vs. heating up a filament. The HIDs will draw more power right at startup, but after that are 35w.

yea, the power has to jump the gap not unlike a spark plug, so there's a lot of voltage moving through those ballasts.

maybe someone can do a "no balls" test by grabbing a connector for a xenon light, and grabbing the connector for a halogen light, and see which one hurts less
