Hey guys, I just bought a 99 gen 3 1.6L Protege a few months ago, and I just found this forum, I didnt know anything about cars before, but I just started working at a garage on base trew my military job, and im really getting into working on cars. So im planning on using my car as a learning car to work on it, im gonna start slow like changing the rear sway bar, and lowering it and stuff like that, but I would like to eventually put a 2.0L in it and stuff, depends if I accidentally destroy it or not lol.

Anyways, if you guys think of anything easy I could do to it to start with, just lmk. Thanks

welcome to our wonderful mazda community. And yay another 1.6. I would suggest suspension mods like you have planned to start with. Overall the car is very easy to work on unless you have rust(Damn Salted Roads). If you need any help with tranny, suspension, interior, etc.. just ask I have been in, out, around, under, etc.. with my car so I would like to say im quite familiar with it.

Thanks alot, yeah im gonna start with simple stuff and work my way up, im pretty sure im ordering a cold air intake, do you know any good stores in canada? I kinda dont want to spend more for the duty\exchange rate

I am not familiar with any canadian stores, but we do have quite a few candian members that may know

A cold air intake is a great start. I like AEM's dry filter. Eventually, you might wnat to have an extra filter handy. That way you can still drive the car while your dirty one is drying after being cleaned.
