Hey all what grade oil are you all using now that the weather is warming up?

You should use 10w-30 during the warmer weather and 5w-30 in the cooler weather. Here in Cali we can use whatever we want though. 10w-30 will protect a little better in hotter weather. 5w-30 will probably yield you a couple of extra HP due it being lighter in weight, downside is that it won't protect as well in the hotter climates. You could also check your owners manual for recommendations.

Mazda has a chart in the manual.....find the climate or temp range you are operating your car in and use the appropriate grade.

here in texas....at least in southeast texas our temp range for YEAR ROUND never really gets outside of the range for using 10W-30 all year long.

I gotta agree with sir nuke, 10W30 Mobil1
Here in San Diego we don't really have all that much of a climate change :p

Funny thing is I was told by another guy who really runs his car hard that the MOBIL 5W-30 synthetic is a little better due to it not having any zinc or ash nor any polymer additives therfore making it the choice oil for hot tempratures. But then again 10W-30 is the number of choice all around so far and is considered the safer of the two due to thickness. Hmmm

I live in Indiana. I put Mobil1 Synth in around the beginning of April. I just let it warm up until the RPMs drop under 1000 every time. She runs like a champ, even in the cooler weather.

Sorry, forgot the 10W30 part. It works well, but i'll use Amsoil from now on and 5W30 in the winter.

I've heard that Synthetics can leak through seals due to the fact that the molecules are smaller than petroleum oils and can pass between surfaces easier due to that.

Uhhhhhh, I was trying to read that last post but was a little distracted...

Nice Avatar buddy...

There's good and bad in everything. If that's actually the case, I'll let you know if I ever see any oil on my garage floor. Until then, I'm running full synth. The gains and engine life expectancy is something I don't wanna pass up.

Amsoil ~~~ 1 qt. of 0w-30 and 3 qts. of 5w-30. car runs unbelievable. Jc, why are you using race oil in your car? Just wondering. I'm sure you must have installed a serious oil pump into your Moroso oil pan for that oil to even make it up to your valve-train during the first minute of start-up. 'Cause that s*** is too heavy to be using in a little 4 banger. You will eat the lobes right off your cams.

I used 20W50 in my other car since it was new (which also happens to have a 2.0l dohc) and it now has 225k miles on it and still going strong... However it doesnt get very cold here in the winter...

Always Synthetics...I wanna drive my MP3 for another 10 years...coz can't afford another one??? so don't wanna take any chance for my engine.
Winter 5W-50 Castrol Synthetic and Summer 15W-50 Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic...Fall and Spring...whatever these two are fine.

I can testify to that information about the synthetic oil leaking is completely false. I've used sythetics on all 3 of the cars I've owned and never once did anything leak out. If you get a leak, it's most likely because you didn't tighten the drain plug on tight enough.
