ya unfortunatly my friend didnt read that b4 he took my car for a spin.... What a dumbass he could have killed himself, or worse someone else. I have read alot of replies and now I really dont feel sorry for the kid I just think its a good lesson to learn from his mistakes. I feel sorry for his family, and everyone it affected. I figured this out a while ago I hope you guys know this by now. Keep your racing to the track...

OMG! Thanks for the wake up call. I almost started crying. A good lookin' 17 year old kid with a 4.0GPA and a brand new RSX, talk about the possibilities....all gone. I feel terrible for his family.
:( :( :( :( :( :(
I think that we all better slow the **** down, and save it for "Rev It Up" and the track, 'cause it's just not worth the consequences to "smoke" somebody.

R.I.P. Bert aka MuGeNpOwEr... 17 years old. Way too young.

Well speed kills. WE all know the risks of getting into cars. But I agree that if you LOVE speed and racing you need to get your thrills at the track.

actually, it's not the speed, but rather the sudden stop.

that is sad.

it's not like no one knows that driving 100mph on a public road (racing or not) is dangerous. just because bert was a good guy doesn't mean he wasn't stupid and reckless. just b/c "he wasn't racing" doesn't mean he can't crash or hurt anyone else...people seem to think that "well, as long as he wasn't racing, he wasn't being irresponsible." that car did not go "an estimated 100mph" on its own.

thank god he didn't kill anyone else.

i crashed my RSX merely driving too fast on a strange road, not racing anyone, and all i could think about for weeks was how stupid i was and "what if someone else had been in the oncoming lane?" it still freaks me out a year later. it takes a LOT of speed to lose control of a car that badly, and esp a car like an RSX-S...it's not exactly an Explorer.

"i've lost 6 friends down there to street racing"??? 6??? how stupid can you be?

 i hope no one else lost friends/family along with those kids.

apparently he WASN'T racing... there are 16 pages though (right now) to go through though...

Natural selection in full effect!
Yep, I totally agree. I don't feel bad for him at all. He was doing something stupid and he died because of it.

apparently he WASN'T racing...
Yeah, and apparently Sadam Husein doesn't have chemical weapons because he "says" he doesn't. Come on man, don't be a damn idiot. Of course he was racing, he was an immature kid from what I read.

Like I said, I have no remorse for people like this. I'm glad he died before he had a chance to kill a family in a minivan or something. One less idiot on the road to endanger other people. I hate to say it, it's kinda cold, but good riddens to bad rubbish.(notcool)

wow. :( reading through all 17 pages of that, its really saddening to realize how fast life can end. its really sad how stuff like that goes. its amazing how many people have read that news story out of the keys, and all the students that knew him. Seemed like a down to earth outgoing guy :(

God rest his soul.

:( :( :(

It's sad, and what's worse is that no one will learn from his mistake. They will still race. Geez, I'm sure his parents are killing themselves for getting there son such a nice car.

:(

Here is the formula you should go by when buying a teenager a car. The car should NEVER have more power than 10 times their age.

Example
16x10=160hp
17x10=170hp

That is still kinda high, but that should be the limit. Actually that should be a law.

my mx-3: 88hp
my protege: 130hp

this doesn't make sense!?!?!?

i should have gained 10hp last night too, and i didn't feel any difference...

racing or not, he was still driving 100 mph on a public road (and not a freeway, from the looks of it). just b/c you're not "racing" doesn't mean it's not irresponsible or dangerous.

people say, "oh, but he wasn't racing!" oh, i'm sorry. extremely high speeds are only dangerous if there are TWO cars doing it. gotcha.

again, it's a shame, but it's not anyone's fault but his. i feel bad for his family most of all.

Agree, here is a post I wrote a long time ago on the TT.net board for Z32s.

this street racing has become.
The DSM people are starting a ban on street racing, race stories are no longer praised, etc..

I admitt I use to street race, and lucky never got hurt or hurt anyone else.

Then I went to the track, and realized that not only is it safer, but you will find a higher caliber driver to race againts. This gives you a chance to actually test your skills againts someone else who knows what they are doing, in a SAFE setting.

You do take the same chances on the highway driving fast, but theres factors that make driving fast on the surface streets even more dangerous.

ON the highway the speed limits normally are 65, not 35s. People do tend to drive in the 80s, BUT on the highway there is very little cross traffic, people are kinda of expecting cars to be going fast. Racing on the highway, like the Brett said is different since you have that added element that causes the drivers to go extra and often dangerous lengths to Win
However on the surface streets speeds are normally 35-45. Drivers arent expecting cars to be doing 80+. Theres cross traffic, people crossing streets or walking.
There was one time a couple of racers where on the surface streets and one lost control, flew up on the sidewalk, and ran over a bus stop inclosure..killing a mother and her kid.

Its time Zers, and upper sports cars put a STOP to street racing. Stop it with the race stories, take it to the track.

But wait not everyone has a track
OK i understand this, not every city can have a track to go to. But is it worth the chance to serious hurt someone over a few minutes of speed. Do you think you could handle it if you did kill someone. I Knew a friend who was racing with other friends in his car. He eventually lost control over a hill, got airborn, hit a tree..which spun the car to the left..then the rear hit a tree and almost instantly the car spun to the right..this force cause the car to rip in half, killing the two other people in the car. Needless to say the driver was horrifled when he woke up to see (sorry if this is to graphic) his friend litterly riped in half next to him. About 3 months later the driver (who would could never bring himself to get in a car) killed himself......

And dont think you are a good driver, and have taken race classes etc.. Cause if you are really good and have taken classes then you would know how utterly stupid, and out of control this street racing has become.

There are more and more drivers on the streets now, theres barely enough room for everyone now. and there is NO room for racing.

Put a stop to it, organize trips to the track, and stop bragging about races. If challenge ignore them. I even go to the weird length of carrying MIR flyers with me, and info about tracks. Handing them to the freaks that want to race. In hopes they actually take it to the tracks.

Sorry about the rambling, and nonsense was trying to keep it toned down, so somethings probably dont make much sense.

Doubt this will really help, but then again I hope it does....I've lost to many friends, and heard to many deaths from something so utterly useless and proving yourself and car to someone, when all you are doing is going home from work, to the store, or to you childerns events.

I know you wrote it a while ago, and its not your excuse, but think about MazdaRevItUp?

Sure not everyone has a track, but how much does it cost to buy a truck full of yellow cones and rent out a parking lot for a day? Charge your buddies a little dough to cover the overhead and you'll have yourself an event.

I know there might be certain local laws or restrictions, but bring examples of how street racing kills people to the table and laws can be rewritten.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

10x Your age hmmm

lets see, according to Big Ben's ageX10=max horsepower

16/17-1986 toyota corolla like 80 hp
17/18-1991 mazda protege like 100hp probably?
18/19-1995 jeep grand cherokee 190hp
Would have been over for 18.(Is there a loop hole for SUV's)
19/20-2001 Mazda MP3 140hp
21-TURBO MP3! boy I'm pushin it. I'm right around the Max. Hopefully over.

chuyler1?? Huh? I did not condone the street racing simply cause there is not a track. Please finish reading it if you just stoped on that word. It goes much better with the actual post on TT.net.
