Help with MSP Kenwood Stereo

The Kenwood 919 that came in my MSP randomly folds halfway down and shuts off. Looks like its gonna eject the cd but nothing happens. The only way to get it to work again is to pull the battery cable. All the dealer's service departmets are on strike around here otherwise i'd just take it in for service. I could drive it way out to a dealer that isnt on strike but I only get 1 day a week off (kinda a hassle). Anybody have this problem with the Factory kennwood? Any Ideas?

Oh yeah... You have to reset the stereo. Use a pen and hit the small button on the face, and it will go back in. The problem is, it resets all of your stations and presets back to stock. It sucks.
 
The Reset button doesent work I have to pull the harness or the battery cable. I don't want to reprogram my stations once every couple of days.
 
Thats weird I would take it to the dealer then. When that happens to me I just puch the reset button and it works fine
 
Yeah its going to the dealer, but like I said they are all on strike around here. Don't like driving without my SIRIUS. A few people said it happens to them but this is becoming a every couple of day problem.
 
Hmm, don't know what to tell you then, except get ready for heartache. I hear they don't make that deck anymore.
 
when it closes up, push in the top left corner of the panel and give it an minute. it'll open up. Make sure you push firmly in the top,left corner..... that should work

Yeah dude i had the same problem, a real pain in the ass. When I took it to the dealer all they did was reset the deck. Get a pin or something and hold it for a few seconds. You should be ok...

That kind of conflicts with the whole warranty thing though. :)
 
resetting it might not work. if it doesn't then it's happening because of the spring that holds the faceplate in place. if you get red lines on the screen then that is your problem. on the left side of the holder that flips is a small spring that pushes the faceplate to the right and keeps the pins aligned. this spring becomes weak after time. just take it out, stretch and make it "springyer" and then put it back and it should work again. there is a post on here somewhere that has pictures and specifics about fixing it but i've given you the basics. i looked for the post but not very hard. a little digging and you can find it. hope that helps

thanks for postin that...i looked a little cuz i knew it was out there but not very hard. my radio went bad before i knew to search the forums for a fix. i just had the dealer replace it. took them 3 months tho...anyway, was tryin to let them know about that fix of yours
 
Mine did it and I brought it to the dealer. They said they fixed it and the next day it stuck open on me. Kept complaining and nothing else done so far. I'm going to b**** and b**** until the dealer does something about it though. This is getting rediculous to keep dealing with. I'm going to tell them to replace with something of comparable value or more (i'll pay difference), and the write me a letter for warranty purposes.... yeah like that'll happen..hehehe.. I can dream can't I.
 
They let me get a different sparco shift knob and they cut me a check for the difference when the leather wrap came off. So maybe they will do the same for the stereo.
 
Yeah, sweet... maybe I'll call the parts department and see how much the deck is going for and go from there. I'm going to call them today and find out. Plus my tranny is going into reverse from 5th when downshifting off the freeway into 4th... talk about your holy shitessss..... sorry to go off topic.

I suggest you give it a try. This fix definatley solved this problem for MY radio. This fix working on YOUR radio depends on YOUR own ingenuity.
