Help with MSP Kenwood Stereo

I believe those decks are listed with Mazda as being $395...whether they can find you one is another story.

I think they should just recall the kenwood stereo all together and give us vouchers to buy different headunits, subs, amps, etc.

If it happens again, just fix it yourself. Tormenting one's self with Mazda's servicemanship with this radio problem is hardly worthwhile.

Good fix SpeedMcheen, wish that post was up when mine did this. At least my dealer was honest and told me to expect to wait a month, then called me the next day and put a new one in :)

I'm going to call again today about it and see what they say... have to schdule for my brakes as well.. I've got the new ones (slotted/cross drilled) coming, but if I can get a new backup set I will... hell yeah. That and my transmission needs to be fixed.

hey i'm having a similar problem as Orngspd03... my deck was half way open and i went ahead and hit the reset button...but now it just stays in the on position...but isn't on. like when i turn off the engine and battery... it'll flip close..but flip back open. the deck won't play any music nor will the display come on even when it's in the open position. it's not in the halfway position no more though... any ideas? any help will be appreciated, thanks. -Neal

Here's an idea. Read the whole thread before posting. You repeated the same problem that Orngspd created this thread for. It'd be worthwhile to read any whole thread that regards a problem you have, wouldn't it? You just might get lucky and find the information you're looking for. Hint: It's on page 1.

push the upper left corner of the face.. hehehe! I know you already tried that but thought I would say it anyway..

i've already read the thread. i said it's NOT in the eject position. it's in the position as if the car was on...but it stays that way all the time, and it's not powered on. also when you shut off the car and battery it flips around like it's supposed to...but then flips back around to the on position. none of the buttons work so i'm not too sure how i'm supposed to get it into the position that i need to have it to do your solution. thanks for trying though.

gun, those too, are some of the symptoms I had, as well as other people have, with this MSP stock radio. It's simple, the unit is shorting out and all kinds of crazy s*** is happening.

Imagine the metal data connections touching between the detachable face and the unit behind it, getting moved back and forth, becoming mis-aligned, and god-forbid, overlap, as you press on the face and the buttons over and over trying to figure out what's wrong with the radio. The face is bound to move around a little when you press on it, especially if the side-spring-plates are in a weakened or inwardly-bent state and need to be stretched out again so the face can be held in place tighter and better. Usually, I believe, only the left-side spring needs to be stretched out a little and rigidified so the metal data connections line-up exactly and the overlapping (shorting) stops.

So, if you are having any symptoms of your radio doing crazy eclectic s*** you could've never imagined, it's probably just shorting itself out, in which case you're lucky there's such an easy way to fix it. Otherwise, maybe you'll have to visit your always-lovely local Mazda service department.

Good luck. (boom07)

I know this can get a little tough because the unit keeps flipping around, but you've got to pull out the detachable face as the unit is folding/unfolding, then you have access to the springs on the sides. Then your ingenuity, and possibly timing skills, come into play.

okay i got it into the position that i need to do your how-to...but i can't figure it out...idk i try moving it a bit (the left side) and the right side just moves with it? idk..i'm confused lol :( i mean... i can't find the spring i guess? i try pushing the metal peice ( i think the spring is behind it?) so that the spring can move foward but it's not working. =/ am i supposed to do anything after i move it a little bit?

It's all about making the metal-to-metal data connections between the detachable face and the main unit line up exactly. It takes more spring-pressure from one side, to push the detachable face to the other side, thereby adjusting the alignment of the data connections.

The fix entails stretching the "problem spring" (left spring, most likely) out again and rigidifing it from behind.

It is a very minute adjustment that is needed. It was confusing to me too, trying to figure out what the s*** was wrong. The crappy, weak, side-springs are the problem. They just need adjusting (streching out) every once and a while to hold the detachable face in place better.
