Help...What's this car worth???

i'm looking for a used mp3 for the son of one of my best friends. we've found a car which sounds nice but we are working with limited funds and i've looked at kelly and edmunds and gotten very different views on value. historically i've found kelly to be totally useless with values so high as to be ridiculous. they must be funded by the dealers i think...anyway, the car is this:

yellow 2001 mp3, 26k miles. sounds like it's in good shape, no accidents, etc.

for private party transactions edmunds gives me around $11k and kelly $12.5k. i'm wondering in this lousy market what you guys and gals think the car is worth. we are ready to buy right now but are under no time pressure to do so, looking for reasonable value. thanks.

It actually does not sound to bad of a price considering how rare the MP3 is. I'd say look around and see what other Mp3 are going for, but well they even harder to find :(
That rarity is going to help in this slump of resale values.

Personally I'd shoot for the 11k range, even with the rarity. 23k miles is not to bad for a 2 yr old car. But are most of these miles just city driving or highway driving, as this makes a big difference in mile concerns.

Good luck, hopefully some Mp3 owners will chime in with first hand knowledge. But I can't say much more cause I've only seen two MP3s. One on the street and one at our recent car meet.

If I were selling my MP3, I wouldn't sell it for less than 13K. And I know somebody would buy it. Some ricer or something :D.

Well 1st off, kelly and edmunds can go to hell, ok
2nd thing is for 11-13 thousand you will be very lucky to get a near mint cond. mp3 for. I will sell mine for no less than $15,000.
meaning I will keep it. They have problems, BUT I AM SICK OF SEEING LIKE HUNDREDS OF THE SAME COLOR/BODY STYLE CARS OUT THERE.

SO GOOD LUCK, I WOULD BUY THE YELLOW ONE IF YOU CAN GET IT FOR THAT PRICE RANGE

mine was a 2001 Blue MP3 with 19,500 miles in perfect condition cept for a scratch on the back bumper and i payed $13,300.

thanks for all the feedback gang!!!

here's my take...the car i'm looking at is yellow which may be in less demand than blue (only a guess on my part) and has a bit more miles than the car jeff bought. also, i don't know when you purchased but things in the used car market haven't gotten better recently, only worse.

so we'll see what happens. again i appreciate the input.

Also being your on the west coast helps in reducing the cost of some used cars.
For example I can go there and get a 86 Corolla (AR86) for 2k, bring it to the East coast and easily get 6-9k.

i have no idea about the numbers of the colors on the MP3, but i think the yellow is rarer. ive never even seen a yellow one in person, and only know of two blue MP3s in my area. Ones a riced out faggot with generic aluminum bench and bad white side checker graphics and altezzas. the other one ive only seen parked by a grocery store, and it only has altezzas.

If memory serves me there is 320 yellow in the USA.....I have never seen one either....it seems like a good price

kelly and edmunds price quotes are way low, they dont really take much into consideration, i put in a brand new p5, all the options and perfect condition, said something like $15k, not even close

yellow is more rare

and your all quoting in american funds which confuses me, as we deal with monopoly money up here

but from what ive seen listed and around in recent time i think if you can grab it at that youre getting a good deal
